About Allegra School
Allegra School Coffs Harbour is an independent, non-denominational Special Assistance School providing Stage 5 education for students in Years 9 and 10. We are deliberately small. With approximately 84 students and classes capped at 14, our size allows us to know young people well, respond when something is not working and shape learning around the individual.
Our mission is to be at the forefront of inclusive, individualised education, and our values of Acceptance, Connection and Collaboration are intended to be visible in how we work with students, families and one another.
In 2026, Allegra School was ranked #1 nationally in the Best Workplaces micro category. We are relational and collaborative, but we also value accountability, sound judgement, reliability and follow-through.
About the role
In a small school, compliance needs to be more than correct on paper. It needs to be practical, current and usable. The Policy, Compliance & Assurance Officer strengthens the systems that sit behind safe and accountable school operations.
The portfolio includes
- policy management and implementation;
- compliance assurance;
- workplace health and safety preparedness;
- crisis and emergency preparedness;
- cybersecurity and privacy;
- information governance;
- business continuity;
- organisational risk support; and
- registration, audit and assurance preparedness.
The role reports directly to the Principal and works closely with Executive, administration staff and authorised external service providers. This is a specialist administration role rather than an executive position. The successful applicant researches, analyses, recommends, drafts, prepares and assures. Final legal interpretation, executive decisions and acceptance of material organisational risk remain with the appropriately authorised person or body.
What you’ll be doing
This is not a role where identifying a problem and forwarding it to someone else is enough. You will be expected to research issues, understand what they mean for Allegra, develop a practical proposed solution and prepare matters for implementation, consultation, approval or escalation.
Your work will include
- administering and maintaining the School's Policy Connect environment;
- monitoring legislative, regulatory and policy developments;
- reviewing and drafting policies, procedures and supporting resources;
- translating compliance requirements into practical workflows, registers,
templates and systems;
- coordinating WHS policy, documentation, preparedness and assurance activity;
- reviewing incidents, hazards, corrective actions and WHS evidence;
- supporting crisis and emergency preparedness, drills and corrective-action processes;
- coordinating policy and assurance frameworks for cybersecurity, privacy and information governance;
- developing and maintaining the School's business-continuity framework;
- supporting organisational risk-assessment processes;
- conducting internal compliance and assurance reviews;
- supporting registration, audit and child-protected assurance preparedness;
- developing accessible implementation and communication resources; and
- preparing regular assurance reports for the Principal, Executive Leadership Team and Board.
We are looking for someone who can:
- turn complex requirements into clear, practical systems rather than simply identify problems;
- research legislation, regulation, policy and authoritative guidance carefully;
- distinguish mandatory requirements from recommended or preferred practice;
- prepare concise, decision-oriented recommendations for senior leaders;
- take ownership of deadlines, records, version control and follow-up;
- work independently while understanding the limits of their authority;
- recognise when legal, child-safety, WHS, privacy, cybersecurity or executive judgement is required;
- collaborate with the people who actually use a process before redesigning it;
- create systems that are proportionate to a small organisation rather than unnecessarily bureaucratic; and
- communicate concerns constructively and bring forward solutions.
Experience and capabilities
We are particularly interested in applicants with experience in one or more of the following:
- policy or governance;
- compliance or quality assurance;
- workplace health and safety;
- organisational risk;
- school or education administration;
- business operations;
- privacy or information governance;
- cybersecurity governance;
- business continuity; or
- a related professional field.
Strong research capability, written communication, document control, judgement, attention to detail and the ability to translate complex requirements into workable systems are central to the role. A relevant qualification in policy, governance, WHS, risk, compliance, law, business administration or a related field is desirable rather than essential.
What good performance looks like
Issues are identified early. Recommendations are researched and actionable.
Approved changes are translated into usable systems, procedures and evidence.
Executive and Board reporting is concise and decision-focused.
Records are reliable, responsibilities are clear and compliance work strengthens the School without unnecessarily shifting routine research, drafting or administration back to the Principal.
Employment package
This is a 0.6 FTE position comprising 22.8 ordinary hours per week across three days. The appointment will be offered initially for 12 months, with the opportunity for extension.
The position is classified as a Clerical and Administration Services Employee Level 4 under the Independent Schools NSW (Professional and Operational Staff) Cooperative Multi-Enterprise Agreement 2025.
2027 salary: $62,614.20 per annum at 0.6 FTE, plus superannuation.
Specific working days and the agreed work pattern will be confirmed in the letter of appointment.
Child safety
Allegra School is committed to providing a child-safe environment and maintaining high standards of professional conduct and safeguarding. The successful applicant must hold a current Working With Children Check and meet any other screening requirements of the School. The role requires compliance with child-protection, privacy, confidentiality, WHS and information-security requirements.
