The Opportunity

The R–6 Teacher is responsible for creating a positive, inclusive and engaging learning environment in which every student is known, supported and challenged to achieve success. Working collaboratively with leaders, colleagues, students and families, the R–6 Teacher:

- Plans and delivers comprehensive, balanced and challenging learning programs aligned with the Australian Curriculum and responsive to students’ individual learning needs, abilities and learning styles.
- Creates a safe, welcoming, orderly and productive classroom environment by establishing positive relationships, clear expectations and effective behaviour education practices.
- Uses purposeful assessment, constructive feedback and accurate record-keeping to monitor student learning, inform teaching practice and report student progress and achievement.
- Works in partnership with colleagues, parents and caregivers to support students’ learning, wellbeing and engagement, including developing Individual Learning Plans where appropriate.
- Contributes actively to the Catholic identity, professional life and broader community of the College through collaboration, professional learning, College activities and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities include:

- Champion the Catholic identity and mission of the College by modelling Catholic values, contributing positively to the ethos of Nazareth, and supporting the faith, learning and community life of the College.
- Plan and deliver high-quality teaching and learning programs aligned with the Australian Curriculum, applying appropriate curriculum knowledge, contemporary teaching methods and educational technologies to facilitate successful learning.
- Respond effectively to the diverse needs of students by identifying individual learning needs and styles, differentiating learning experiences, and providing appropriate support and challenge so every student can experience success.




- Create a positive and productive learning environment by building respectful relationships with students, establishing clear expectations and routines, maintaining an orderly and welcoming classroom, and applying College behaviour education policies and practices consistently.
- Assess, monitor and report student learning by using a range of purposeful assessment methods, maintaining accurate and comprehensive records, providing constructive feedback, and preparing detailed and informative reports for students and families.
- Support student wellbeing and safety by assisting students who are hurt, unwell or in distress, undertaking supervision duties diligently, and complying with relevant child safeguarding, work health and safety, legislative and College requirements.
- Build strong partnerships with parents and caregivers through timely, respectful and qualified communication about student learning, achievement, engagement and wellbeing, including participation in parent-teacher interviews and other College activities.
- Work collaboratively with leaders and colleagues to reflect on and improve teaching practice, contribute to curriculum and College initiatives, support College activities, and participate positively in meetings, professional learning, training and professional review processes.
- Fulfil professional and administrative responsibilities by meeting students at designated locations and times, completing required records and tasks accurately and promptly, protecting confidential information, and undertaking other duties as required by the Principal or delegate.
