The City of Fremantle is currently seeking to appoint a Principal Statutory Planner to assess major applications and proposals. This role will support and mentor the team to provide excellent customer service to community members and businesses, and support applicants through pre-lodgement and design review, all the way through to development approval.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide expert statutory planning expertise to influence complex development outcomes and ensure decisions align with legislative requirements and the City’s strategic planning framework.

- Deliver responsive and accurate planning advice to customers and stakeholders by managing enquiries across multiple channels in accordance with the City’s customer service standards.





- Enhance statutory planning services by identifying improvement opportunities and contributing to the development and review of planning frameworks, policies, and processes.

- Deliver integrated planning outcomes by facilitating effective collaboration across disciplines and resolving complex, multidisciplinary planning issues.

- Strengthen team capability and performance by supervising, mentoring, and supporting planning staff, ensuring quality, consistency, and compliance in statutory planning outputs.

- Ensure transparent and accountable decision making by applying delegated authority and fulfilling governance responsibilities in accordance with legislative and organisational requirements.

- Deliver timely, consistent, and compliant planning outcomes by assessing, determining and reporting on development applications and subdivisions, reviewing matters across the full statutory planning lifecycle.

To be considered for this position, you will need

- Considerable experience in statutory planning at a Senior level.

- Knowledge and understanding of relevant town planning legislation and practices/procedures associated with development assessment.

- Proven ability to write reports and make recommendations on complex statutory planning matters.

- Demonstrated commitment to customer service and the ability to handle customer enquiries in a courteous, sensitive and effective manner.





- Capacity to manage time effectively, identify workload priorities and meet deadlines.

- Tertiary qualification in town planning or an equivalent qualification in a related discipline.

- Current Western Australian ‘C’ class driver’s license
