About Metal Art & Design

Metal Art & Design is a Geelong-based architectural metalwork company specialising in high-quality, custom metal fabrication for commercial and residential projects throughout Geelong, the Surf Coast and Melbourne. Our work includes architectural balustrades and handrails, staircases, feature metalwork, stainless steel, aluminium and brass fabrication, screens, doors, windows, façades, custom structures and other bespoke architectural metalwork.

We work on large-scale and high-end projects where quality, accuracy and attention to detail matter.

We are looking for an experienced Qualified Boilermaker / Metal Fabricator who takes pride in their work and can consistently produce a high standard of finish.

The Role

This is a full-time position based primarily at our Corio workshop, with regular site installations throughout Geelong, the Surf Coast and Melbourne. You will be involved in projects from fabrication through to installation and will need to be comfortable working independently, as part of a team and solving problems when conditions on site do not exactly match the drawings.

Your responsibilities will include:

- Fabricating custom architectural metalwork from shop drawings
- Reading, interpreting and accurately following detailed shop drawings
- MIG and TIG welding
- Accurately measuring, marking, cutting, drilling, welding, grinding and finishing components
- Producing neat welds and high-quality finished products
- Fabricating work where weld quality, alignment, joins and surface finish will remain visible
- Checking your own work for dimensions, squareness, alignment and finish throughout fabrication
- Identifying problems before they become rework or installation issues
- Completing site installations throughout Geelong, Surf Coast and Melbourne
- Problem-solving and adapting to site conditions while maintaining the required design and finish




- Working effectively with builders, supervisors, other trades and our internal team on site
- Handling finished and coated products carefully to prevent scratches or damage
- Maintaining a clean, organised and safe workspace
- Taking pride in delivering work that is ready to hand over to the client

What We're Looking For

Essential:

- Qualified Boilermaker / Metal Fabricator
- Current driver's licence (manual)
- Current White Card
- Strong ability to read and follow shop drawings
- Experience in MIG welding and general metal fabrication
- Ability to fabricate accurately to dimensions and tolerances
- Ability to work independently and problem-solve
- Confidence working and problem-solving on construction sites
- Reliable and able to consistently turn up ready to work
- Excellent attention to detail
- Strong focus on quality and workmanship
- Ability to produce clean, high-quality finished work
- Ability to recognise when something isn't right and address it rather than simply making it work
- Good communication skills and ability to work as part of a team
- Strong understanding of workshop and site safety requirements

Highly Regarded:

- TIG welding experience
- Stainless steel fabrication and finishing experience
- Aluminium fabrication and welding experience
- Brass fabrication experience
- Architectural metalwork experience
- Experience with balustrades, handrails and staircases
- Experience installing finished architectural metalwork
- Experience working with tight tolerances and high-end finishes
- Stainless steel linishing, polishing and finishing experience
- Experience working with powder-coated, galvanised,



polished or other finished products
- EWP, forklift or other relevant licences/tickets

A large portion of our work is finished architectural metalwork, meaning the fabrication is often part of the final visible product. We're looking for someone who notices the details:

Are the gaps even?

Are the welds neat?

Is it straight and square?

Are the joins clean?

Are the fixings neat and consistent?

Has the finished surface been protected?

Would you be proud to put your name on it?

We want tradespeople who take ownership of their work and understand that completing the job is only part of the requirement — the finished product needs to look right as well.
