Position: Quality Manager (Welding & Structural Steel)

Role Overview The Quality Manager will perform the Responsible Welding Coordinator (RWC) function and oversee all welding and quality assurance/control activities within the business. This role requires strong technical expertise in Australian welding standards, structural steel infrastructure projects, and quality documentation. The incumbent will ensure compliance with relevant standards, drive continuous improvement, and maintain company accreditations.

Key Responsibilities

- Act as Responsible Welding Coordinator (RWC) , ensuring compliance with AS 2214 / AS 1796 Certificate 10 requirements.
- Develop, review, and approve Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQRs) .
- Manage Inspection and Test Plans (ITPs) , QA/QC documentation, and contribute to project-specific safety plans.
- Oversee welding and fabrication methodology, sequencing, and planning in coordination with production teams.
- Coordinate welder qualification testing and maintain qualification records.
- Supervise subcontractors for welding coordination, inspection, testing, and NDT activities.
- Liaise with client quality representatives and issue quality job packs.
- Manage non-conformances (NCRs), corrective actions, and ensure traceability of materials and consumables.
- Control calibration, testing, and maintenance of equipment, ensuring compliance with QA systems.




- Support external audits and maintain quality records and registers.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the Quality Department.

Required Qualifications & Competencies

- AS 2214 Welding Supervisor or AS 1796 Certificate 10 (mandatory).
- Demonstrated experience in Australian structural steel and infrastructure projects (bridges, highways, rail, heavy fabrication).
- Strong knowledge of Australian and international welding standards:
- AS/NZS 1554
- AS/NZS 5131 (CC3)
- ISO 3834
- AS/NZS ISO 9606.1
- Proven ability to assemble QA packages and MDRs.
- Experience managing QA/QC activities in fabrication facilities.
- Effective leadership and resource management skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Commitment to health, safety, and compliance.
