Pintupi Homelands Health Service (PHHS) is seeking a motivated, community-focused Health Promotion Officer to join our dedicated team in Kintore, Northern Territory.
This is a unique opportunity to make a genuine difference to health and wellbeing outcomes for Aboriginal people while working within a robust, community-controlled health service.
You'll lead health promotion initiatives across the community, working alongside a multidisciplinary primary health care team and building trusted relationships with individuals, families and young people.
About the role:
The Health Promotion Officer will lead the Health Promotion Portfolio, supporting improved health and wellbeing outcomes through a coordinated, strengths-based and community-driven approach.
A key focus of the role is engaging young people aged 15–24, particularly young Aboriginal men, and supporting them to build resilience, improve health knowledge and make positive choices around their health and wellbeing.
We're looking for someone who can connect naturally with young people, communicate in a relaxed and approachable way, and build genuine relationships within the community. You don't need to have all the answers – but you do need to be confident, culturally respectful, approachable and able to engage young Aboriginal men in a way that feels authentic.
Your portfolio will include:
- Health Promotion
- Social and Emotional Wellbeing (SEWB)
- Sexual Health – BBV/STI

You'll help deliver programs that promote healthier lifestyles, increase access to health services and support the prevention of chronic disease.
What you'll do:
- Plan, deliver and evaluate culturally safe, community-led health promotion activities
- Develop and deliver health education programs for priority groups
- Build positive relationships with young people, families and community members
- Engage young Aboriginal men in preventative health and wellbeing initiatives
- Work collaboratively with Aboriginal Health Workers and the broader multidisciplinary team
- Promote healthy eating, physical activity and positive wellbeing
- Develop strong relationships with community, government and non-government stakeholders
- Contribute to quality improvement and governance activities
- Support the transfer of health knowledge and skills to Aboriginal Health Workers and community members
- Develop your understanding of Pintupi language, culture and community priorities
About you:
You'll ideally have
- A tertiary qualification in Health Promotion, Public Health, Education, Community Development or an Allied Health discipline
- Experience in health promotion, health education and/or program development and evaluation
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills
- The ability to connect positively with young people,
particularly young Aboriginal men
- An understanding of Aboriginal health and the principles of Primary Health Care
- The ability to work respectfully and effectively in a cross-cultural environment
- Strong organisational and teamwork skills
- Confidence working independently while contributing to a multidisciplinary team
- Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office
- A manual driver's licence and willingness to travel by 4WD
- Flexibility and adaptability to work within an Aboriginal community-controlled organisation
- A genuine commitment to developing Pintupi language and cultural knowledge
- Previous experience working in remote Aboriginal health will be highly regarded
The person we're looking for:
This role will suit someone who is relatable, energetic and genuinely interested in connecting with people.
You'll be working closely with young Aboriginal people, so the ability to build trust, communicate informally and respectfully, and engage young men in conversations about health is particularly important.
We are looking for someone who can bring energy, maturity, cultural humility and a genuine interest in working alongside the community.
Life in Kintore:
Located in the Western Desert, Kintore offers the opportunity to experience the unique beauty, culture and strength of Central Australia.
This is more than a job – it's an opportunity to work alongside a remote Aboriginal community, develop your cultural capability and contribute to meaningful, long-term health outcomes.
