About the prospect

A major NSW electricity network business is investing in stronger governance across its project portfolio and is looking for a Process Cost Controller to join a newly forming Governance and Control team.

This is not a standard reporting role. You'll help design and embed a robust cost control framework across the portfolio, from how funding and work orders are released at the front end, through to tracking costs, trends and risk on projects already underway. If you enjoy getting deep into the data, asking the hard questions and building better processes, this role offers real scope to make your mark.

What you'll do

- Help design and implement a portfolio-level cost control framework aligned to the project lifecycle.
- Sequence and control the release of funding, WBS elements and work orders for project delivery.
- Analyse transaction data, journals, timesheets and unit costs to understand how costs are allocated and trending across labour, materials and other components.
- Assure cost estimates and forecasts by testing their assumptions, understanding their drivers and highlighting where they don't stack up.
- Scrutinise project change requests,



explaining the drivers and components of cost increases and providing objective insight to decision-makers.
- Identify financial risk across the portfolio and help present it clearly at key governance forums.
- Improve the WBS structure in SAP to support stronger reporting and earned value management.
- Work closely with the risk and compliance and the performance and insights analysts to lift cost control maturity.

About you

- Experience in project or portfolio cost control, project finance, or financial analysis, ideally in a capital-intensive environment such as utilities, infrastructure, engineering or construction.
- Strong SAP skills, particularly in project systems, WBS, work orders and cost reporting.
- Confident working with both structured and unstructured data to find the story behind the numbers.
- A process improvement mindset. You're proactive in suggesting better ways of working, not just maintaining the current ones.
- The confidence to challenge project teams constructively, with the interpersonal skills to build trusted relationships across finance, the PMO and delivery.
- A tertiary qualification in finance, accounting, commerce or a related field. CA or CPA is highly regarded.
