Registered Nurse - Specialist Pain Practice

Imagine moving into a Monday-to-Friday private practice role where you can still use your clinical skills, work closely with specialists, educate and support patients, and enjoy more predictable hours.

At Hunter Pain Specialists, your role will extend well beyond traditional clinic nursing. You'll be involved across the patient journey - from assisting with procedures and providing patient education through to coordinating hospital admissions and follow-up care, alongside administration, quality improvement and involvement in clinical research.

It's a role that brings together the clinical, educational and coordination sides of nursing - with plenty of variety along the way.

- Flexibility for the right person - full time preferred, although part-time Registered Nurses will also be considered

What could your day look like? This is where the variety of the role really comes through.

One part of your day may see you working directly with patients - providing education about their treatment, answering questions, supporting them through advanced pain therapies or following up after a procedure.

You may then be assisting a specialist with an injection procedure, undertaking a wound review or dressing, fitting a TENS machine, assisting with an intrathecal pump refill or coordinating the programming and follow-up of a spinal cord stimulator patient.

But your involvement doesn't stop when the procedure is finished.

You'll also coordinate aspects of the patient journey behind the scenes - including private hospital admissions, theatre arrangements, post-procedure follow-up, correspondence and liaison with GPs, pharmacies and other healthcare professionals.

And if you enjoy the learning and development side of nursing, there is another dimension to the position. You'll have opportunities to stay across developments in pain management, contribute to clinical practice guidelines and quality improvement, share knowledge with others and participate in clinically relevant research projects.

Who would thrive in this role?

You don't necessarily need to have worked in pain management before.

Pain-management experience would certainly be welcomed,



but we're equally interested in an experienced RN who brings strong transferable clinical skills, enjoys learning and is interested in broadening their experience within pain management.

If you come from a hospital, theatre, procedural or surgical nursing background, this could be a wonderful opportunity to take your experience into a different working environment while still enjoying genuine clinical involvement.

You'll ideally bring

- Current AHPRA registration - as a Registered Nurse
- Relevant nursing experience - hospital, theatre, procedural or surgical nursing experience
- Clinical confidence - working with doctors and assisting with procedures
- A genuine enjoyment of patient education and support - and the ability to explain information clearly and reassuringly
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills - with patients, doctors and the wider healthcare team
- Good administration, organisation and follow-through - with confidence coordinating multiple aspects of a patient's care
- A warm, calm and reassuring manner - particularly when supporting patients managing complex or ongoing pain
- Curiosity and an interest in continuing to learn - and confidence working independently as well as part of a collaborative team
