Westland Nurseries is expanding its retail team with two roles: Retail Sales Assistant & Horticulturist.

The Retail Sales

Assistant role is perfect for someone who genuinely enjoys working with people, has an eye for styling, and loves creating a warm, welcoming experience for every visitor.

The Retail

Horticulturist role is ideal for a plant expert who blends deep horticultural knowledge with strong retail sales skills to keep our stock thriving and deliver exceptional advice to our customers.

Key responsibilities

Retail Sales Assistant & Horticulturist:

- Helping customers find the perfect plants from our wide variety grown right on-site.
- Providing friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable customer service
- Replenishing stock and keeping the shop looking fresh, clean, and inviting
- Processing sales efficiently using our Point of Sale (POS) system, Evergreen Connect.
- Working collaboratively as part of our small, energetic team
- Providing exceptional customer service and expert horticultural guidance
- Maintaining high standards of plant health (watering, pruning, potting, and pest/disease management)
- Identifying common plant pests and diseases and assisting with treatment




- Recommending suitable plants, fertilisers, and remedies to meet customer needs
- Maintaining plant displays to a consistently high presentation standard
- Undertaking general nursery duties including cleaning, weeding, and general site care

About you

- Passionate about plants and gardens.
- Natural ability to connect with people, communicate warmly, and offer outstanding service
- Well-presented, trustworthy, physically active, and happy to assist across all areas of the business
- Retail Sales Assistant: Previous retail or customer service experience is preferred
- Retail Horticulturist: Certificate II, III, or IV in Horticulture (or equivalent) strongly preferred, alongside sound plant identification and care knowledge
