About the Opportunity

Are you a skilled asset management and spatial data professional who enjoys turning complex information into practical decisions? The Town of Gawler is seeking an Asset Systems Lead to strengthen the systems, data and insights that support the sustainable management of Council’s infrastructure portfolio.

Reporting to the Manager Assets and leading the GIS Officer, you will oversee Council’s asset management systems, corporate asset registers and spatial data. You will provide accurate analysis, reporting and advice that informs asset management plans, capital works programs, financial processes, audits and long-term investment decisions.

What you’ll be doing

Overseeing the implementation, maintenance and continuous improvement of Council’s asset management systems, databases and spatial datasets.

Maintaining accurate corporate asset registers and integrating asset, GIS, project and financial information across Council systems.

Analysing and cleansing asset data to support asset management plans, statutory reporting, audits and evidence-based decision-making.

Coordinating asset condition, valuation, maintenance inspection and field data collection programs.

Developing renewal forecasts, capital works reports, budget information and 10-year capital programs using asset condition and lifecycle modelling.

Delivering spatial analysis, mapping and GIS advisory services and helping staff use Council’s GIS tools effectively.

Coordinating annual asset capitalisation and supporting revaluations, end-of-financial-year processing and internal and external audits.

About You

You are an analytical and collaborative professional who combines strong asset management, GIS and data capabilities with sound judgement and clear communication. You can investigate complex information, improve systems and processes, maintain high levels of accuracy, and translate technical findings into useful advice for operational, financial and strategic stakeholders. You are comfortable working independently,



coordinating competing priorities and supporting colleagues to use asset and spatial systems effectively.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

Qualifications in asset management at Certificate IV level or higher, or a related discipline such as civil engineering, spatial science or information technology, or equivalent relevant knowledge and experience.

Demonstrated experience with asset management and GIS systems, complex data collection, analysis, cleansing and reporting.

Strong understanding of asset management systems and database concepts, including table structures, data normalisation and relational databases.

Advanced capability with Microsoft Excel and experience with CAD, asset management and GIS software.

Experience modelling data in asset management information systems and producing clear reports and advice.

Strong organisational, problem-solving, interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work accurately to deadlines with limited supervision.

Capacity to coordinate asset management education and support staff in the effective use of systems and data.

A current National Criminal History Record Check with no adverse findings.

Desirable Qualifications & Experience

Tertiary qualification in civil engineering or a related discipline.

Current, unimpeded South Australian driver’s licence.

Local government experience in asset management and GIS functions.

Experience developing policies and procedures and applying continuous improvement methods.
