We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Insurance Advisor to join the Corporate Governance branch within the Council.

This is not a traditional insurance role. Logan City Council has recently restructured its insurance and claims function, creating a unique opportunity for an experienced insurance professional to help build, influence and shape a modern, customer-focused insurance and claims service from the ground up under the guidance and direction of the Principal Insurance Advisor.

Position responsibilities include:

- Leading the end-to-end management of complex and sensitive insurance claims from initial notification through to investigation, strategy development, negotiation, settlement, recovery and closure.
- Managing claims under relevant legislation, including attendance at mediations, conferences and proceedings where required.
- Developing and implementing claim strategies that maximise recovery opportunities and protect Council's interests.
- Working directly with insurers, brokers, lawyers, loss adjusters, investigators, consultants and stakeholders to progress claims and achieve outcomes.
- Supporting leadership and oversight of Council's insurance and claims management function.
- Identifying uninsured, underinsured and emerging exposures and implementing practical risk transfer solutions.
- Leading insurance renewals, placements and market engagement activities.
- Proactively marketing Council's risk profile to brokers, insurers and underwriters to support optimal placement outcomes.
- Providing specialist advice on insurance coverage, claims, contractual risk transfer and insurable risk matters.
- Overseeing insurance financial governance, including claims expenditure, reserves, recoveries, budgets, and reporting.
- Maintaining insurance records, asset schedules, policy documentation and claims data integrity.
- Preparing strategic reports, business cases, briefings and recommendations for management, Executive Leadership Team and Councillors.
- Building stakeholder confidence in a newly evolving insurance function.
- Coaching team members and supporting capability uplift across the organisation.
- Leading continuous improvement initiatives that strengthen service delivery, governance and organisational resilience.

Requirements:

- Substantive experience managing complex insurance portfolios and complex insurance claims within a large and complex organisation.
- Demonstrated experience leading the end-to-end management of high-value, sensitive or legally complex claims.
- Solid understanding of insurance placement, claims management, recovery strategies and general insurance market practices.
- Experience negotiating and influencing outcomes with insurers, brokers, lawyers, loss adjusters and other service providers.
- Demonstrated success providing strategic and technical advice to management and executive stakeholders.
- Experience identifying and addressing uninsured, underinsured and emerging risk exposures.
- Strong analytical, investigative and problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement, negotiation and influencing skills.
- Experience leading projects, implementing change and driving service improvement.
- Strong governance awareness and commercial judgement.
- Experience establishing or improving systems, processes and service delivery frameworks.
- The ability to translate complex insurance concepts into clear, practical advice
- Relevant qualifications in insurance, law, governance or risk management will be highly regarded.

Local Government experience is desirable but not essential.

Most importantly, you will be someone who enjoys building, improving, influencing and delivering. Someone who can think strategically but is equally comfortable stepping into the detail, managing a complex claim, mentoring colleagues, supporting stakeholders driving meaningful results across the organisation.
