Aircraft Maintenance Engineer - Composites

Role Overview Jet Aviation is seeking an experienced Aircraft Maintenance Engineer - Composites to join its Cairns MRO team. The role is responsible for the repair, modification and maintenance of aircraft composite structures and components, ensuring all work is completed safely, efficiently and in accordance with approved technical data, company procedures and applicable aviation requirements. You will work closely with structures, maintenance, engineering and production personnel, supporting aircraft and component requirements while maintaining a strong focus on workmanship, regulatory compliance, customer satisfaction and continuous improvement.

Remuneration: annual salary from AUD 86,134 plus superannuation, plus overtime, plus relocation assistance.

Key Responsibilities

- Carry out scheduled and unscheduled maintenance in accordance with OEM publications, approved technical data, company procedures and applicable aviation regulations.
- Repair and modify aircraft composite structures and components using approved processes, parts and materials.
- Perform composite lay-up, bonding, vacuum bagging, curing and laminate application.
- Identify defects, damage and repair requirements, escalating issues where required.
- Inspect completed work to confirm it meets approved quality and engineering standards.
- Accurately complete maintenance documentation, work orders, job records, certifications and daily sign-offs.
- Ensure approved maintenance data is current, applicable and correctly followed.
- Work collaboratively with engineers,



maintenance personnel and other trades to meet production and maintenance schedules.
- Maintain strict compliance with safety, quality, FOD control, tool control, housekeeping and work health and safety requirements.
- Participate in quality and safety activities, audits, technical investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Support defect analysis, aviation safety reporting and the identification of safety or operational improvements.
- Ensure tooling, ground support equipment, spares, release notes and certificates of conformity are properly controlled and documented.
- Contribute to effective shift handovers, work progress reporting and the timely communication of operational issues.
- Promote a "Safety First" culture and demonstrate a commitment to customer satisfaction.
- Undertake other duties as directed by your supervisor to support company and customer success.

Materials and Processes

- Carbon fibre, Kevlar and E-glass.
- Composite lay-up, bonding, vacuum bagging and curing.
- Surface preparation, trimming, sanding and finishing.
- Composite repairs, modifications and interior applications.

Requirements

- An understanding of aircraft structures and composite repair techniques.
- Ability to interpret drawings, technical documentation and repair instructions.
- A demonstrated understanding of aviation regulatory,



quality and safety requirements.
- Strong attention to detail and a commitment to high-quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Strong computer literacy, including experience with ERP systems and Microsoft Office.
- A proactive, self-motivated and results-focused approach.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

- Ability to work flexible schedules and in a range of weather and hangar conditions.
- Ability to meet the physical requirements of the role, with reasonable adjustments considered where appropriate.

Licences & Qualifications

- A minimum Certificate IV in Aeroskills.
- Experience working in an aircraft maintenance facility.
- Previous experience working with aircraft composites, either on-wing or off-wing.
- Robust practical composite repair skills and experience with carbon fibre, fibreglass and other composite materials.
