School Administrative and Support Position Information The NSW Department of Education provides, funds and regulates education services for NSW students from early childhood to secondary school, delivering world-class education through its public schools and providing funding support to non-government schools. Rainbow Street Public School’s Inclusive Hub has four support classes, catering for students with Autism,



Moderate Intellectual Disability, Mild Intellectual Disability, and Mental Health needs. Each class is supported by a Special Education Teacher and a School Learning and Support Officer (SLSO). This cooperative approach ensures students receive individualised support while developing their independence, confidence and capacity to engage meaningfully in their learning and school community.

The role of the School Learning and Support Officer (SLSO) is centred around building positive, respectful and trusting relationships with students. By creating a safe and supportive environment, SLSOs help students feel valued, understood and confident to participate in their learning.

As part of our inclusive philosophy, Rainbow Street Public School Inclusive Hub students are supported to integrate with our mainstream students in classes, school activities, excursions, sporting opportunities, social events and other whole school experiences.

Essential Requirements

- Working with Children Check Clearance
- Completion of mandatory training required by the Department of Education and a willingness to undertake first aid training relevant to the School Learning Support Officer role.
- Administration of Medications – training to be provided based on student needs.
- Health support training to be provided based on student needs (subject to transition provisions).

Specific Selection Criteria
1. Demonstrated ability to work effectively as part of a team.
2. Ability to work with students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.
3. Awareness of the needs of students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities.
4. Effective communication skills.
