Sport Integrity Australia are looking to fill the role of Science Officer - APS Level 5

About the role The Science Officer will contribute to the Sport Integrity Australia’s science functions. The Science team provide scientific advice, information, and intelligence to all areas of Sport Integrity Australia’s operations with a primary focus on the Anti-Doping program. Science officers are also responsible for:

- Liaison with World Anti-Doping Authority (WADA)-Accredited Laboratories
- Results management of Adverse Analytical Findings and Atypical Findings
- Athlete Biological Passport management and duties as required from the Sydney Athlete Passport Management Unit (APMU)
- Maintenance of GlobalDRO and provision of advice on World Anti-Doping Code Prohibited substances.

The duties of the Science Officer include, but are not limited to:
- Management of routine Adverse Analytical Findings (AAFs) and Atypical Findings (ATFs)
- Review and Assessment of Athlete Biological Passport including relating to individual athletes
- Development of testing and detection strategies relating to individual athletes
- Provide expert scientific advice to support Sport Integrity Australia’s objectives
- Contribute to maintaining an effective relationship with the Australian Sports Drug Testing Laboratory and other relevant stakeholders
- Provide responses to routine enquiries (both internal and external) about prohibited substances, analysis methods and laboratory reporting/capability
- Contribute to the maintenance of data in GlobalDRO
- Conduct routine operational intelligence assessments of scientific data
- Contribute to improving processes to Sport Integrity Australia operations
- Perform daily tasks and processes to effectively and efficiently maintain the Science team’s operational outcomes

The key accountabilities of the Science Officer include, but are not limited to:




- Provision of reliable and timely scientific and technical advice
- Contribute to ongoing development of Sport Integrity Australia’s scientific functions
- Work and act safely and take all reasonable care to protect personal health and safety and the health and safety of others
- Cooperate with the employer and comply with all relevant legislation and Sport Integrity Australia’s health and safety policies, procedures and instructions and Sport Integrity Australia’s ICT and Information Governance Framework
- Comply with the NAD scheme, the Sport Integrity Australia Act, the World Anti-Doping code and other relevant governance and international standards
- Ensure that APS Values and Code of Conduct are adhered to at all times

What we are looking for (selection criteria):

- Tertiary qualifications in Chemistry, Pharmacy, Biological Sciences, or a related field
- Demonstrated knowledge and expertise in a relevant branch of Science, or ability to quickly acquire knowledge and expertise, in scientific matters relevant to the detection of doping in sport
- Well-developed oral and written communication skills, and ability to communicate scientific principles to people with no science background
- Ability to maintain positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Highly developed time management skills and ability to prioritise own workload
- Experience in enhancing processes to improve practices
- Demonstrated personal drive, integrity, and initiative.
