Senior Landscape Architect

Temporary | Local Government | Melbourne An prospect is available for an experienced Landscape Architect to join a public-sector team delivering a range of strategic public space and landscape projects. This is a hands-on project role suited to someone who enjoys taking projects from early strategic thinking and site assessment through to design development, documentation and delivery. You will work across a diverse portfolio of public open space projects, collaborating with internal teams, consultants, contractors, government stakeholders and the community.

The Opportunity

You will contribute to the planning and delivery of significant public space improvements, with responsibility for helping shape projects that are practical, sustainable, accessible and responsive to the needs of the community.

Your responsibilities will include

- Leading and supporting the development of strategic public space and reserve improvement projects.
- Undertaking site assessments and translating strategic objectives into practical project outcomes.
- Developing project scopes, briefs, programs, budgets and delivery plans.
- Coordinating projects through planning, design, documentation, procurement and construction.
- Providing professional landscape architecture and public space advice to support project and strategic decision-making.
- Working with internal stakeholders and external consultants, contractors, government agencies and community representatives.
- Contributing to broader open space planning and investment priorities.
- Preparing and reviewing landscape designs, reports, project documentation, cost estimates and procurement material.
- Supporting consultation and stakeholder engagement and incorporating appropriate feedback into project development.
- Monitoring project budgets, risks, programs and deliverables and providing clear project reporting.
- Considering accessibility, safety, sustainability, functionality, maintenance and whole-of-life costs throughout the project lifecycle.




- Working collaboratively with colleagues to ensure projects align with organisational priorities, relevant standards and public space objectives.

About You

You will be a qualified Landscape Architect with demonstrated experience delivering landscape architecture or public space projects, ideally within a complex skilled, government or multidisciplinary environment.

You will bring

- Strong technical landscape architecture and project delivery experience.
- Experience taking projects from concept and strategic planning through to implementation.
- An understanding of public open space, parks, reserves or civic landscape projects.
- The ability to develop project scopes, briefs, budgets and programs.
- Strong stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Experience coordinating consultants, contractors and multidisciplinary project teams.
- Sound knowledge of landscape documentation, procurement and construction processes.
- An understanding of sustainable, accessible and durable public realm design.
- Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities.
- The confidence to provide professional advice and contribute to strategic decision-making.

You will be comfortable operating in an environment where projects involve multiple stakeholders, competing priorities and the need to balance community expectations with budget, operational, environmental and long-term asset considerations.

The Role

This is a temporary opportunity through until at least Christmas, with a very strong chance to extend. Working within a highly respected local council, this role offers the chance to work on projects that have a tangible impact on the quality and usability of public spaces. It would suit a Landscape Architect who combines strong design and technical capability with practical project management and stakeholder skills, and who enjoys seeing projects progress from an initial idea through to delivery.
