The Department of Transport and Main Roads is seeking a Senior Legal Officer to join its Prosecution Services Unit. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated lawyer to undertake meaningful prosecution work that supports transport safety and regulatory outcomes across Queensland.

In this role, you will contribute to the court-based enforcement of camera-detected offences and serious transport safety matters, including marine safety, light vehicle safety, registration, tolling and fare evasion offences. You may also appear in Magistrates Courts across Queensland and in District Court appeals, with intrastate travel required as needed.

You will provide legal advice and advocacy services in a regulatory compliance environment, apply legal principles to support effective prosecution outcomes, and build productive working relationships with investigating officers, stakeholders and colleagues. Working both independently and as part of a team-oriented legal team, you will contribute to shared goals and support TMR's broader regulatory enforcement objectives.

The Role Includes





- Drafting legal documents, including complaints and summonses, while ensuring relevant legislative and policy considerations are applied.
- Appearing as an advocate in call-overs, sentences, mentions and summary hearings in the Magistrates Court, and appearing on behalf of the department in applications for special hardship orders.
- Providing thoroughly researched, practical and accurate legal advice on a wide range of matters relating to the Acts and Regulations administered by the department.
- Building and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues and support quality outcomes.

To be successful in this role, you will need to:

- hold a degree in Law and be admitted as a legal practitioner in the Supreme Court of Queensland
- have advocacy experience, which is highly desirable
- hold an open or provisional driver licence, as travel in departmental vehicles is required to attend courts across south-east Queensland.
