Details: The ACT Courts and Tribunal (ACTCT) is seeking motivated and resilient individuals to join the Forensic Medicine Centre as Senior Mortuary Technicians. This unique and rewarding role provides specialised technical support to Pathologists undertaking autopsies and other post-mortem examinations and plays an important role in supporting coronial investigations and the administration of justice in the ACT. Working within a professional and supportive team, you will undertake complex mortuary duties, support the development of junior staff and contribute to maintaining high standards of service, safety and professionalism within the Forensic Medicine Centre.

About ACT Courts and Tribunal The ACT Courts and Tribunal (ACTCT) supports the administration of justice in the ACT by delivering high-quality services to judicial officers, tribunal members, court users and the wider community. Through a range of registry, court support, forensic, corporate and strategic services, ACTCT plays a vital role in ensuring the effective operation of the Supreme Court, Magistrates Court and ACT Civil and Administrative Tribunal (ACAT).

What You'll Do

As a Senior Mortuary Technician, you will provide specialised technical support to Pathologists undertaking post-mortem examinations and coronial investigations. You will assist with the preparation and examination of deceased persons, including photography, specimen collection, recording examination information and reconstructing individuals following examination with dignity and respect.



You will maintain the mortuary environment by ensuring facilities and equipment are cleaned, stocked and operated in accordance with strict health, safety and biohazard management requirements.

You will also support admissions and releases, assist with family viewings, undertake administrative duties, liaise with police, funeral directors and other stakeholders, and assist with the training and guidance of Mortuary Technicians to maintain high standards of practice and service delivery.

What We're Looking For

We are seeking an experienced, professional and resilient individual who can work effectively in a unique and sensitive environment. You will have strong communication and interpersonal skills, sound judgement and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively while managing competing priorities. You will possess experience in a mortuary, forensic, health, science or related environment and a strong commitment to workplace health and safety.

Attention to detail is essential, particularly when handling specimens, maintaining records and performing technical procedures. You will also demonstrate the ability to support, guide and train staff while contributing to a positive, safe and professional workplace culture. Relevant qualifications in mortuary practice, forensic science, health sciences, biology, anatomy or a related discipline will be highly regarded.

Eligibility/Other requirements:

- Relevant qualifications in mortuary practice and/or a degree in science, health sciences, biology, forensics or a related discipline are desirable
- Applicant is required to be vaccinated against Hepatitis B and other applicable vaccines.

Notes: This position will be offered on a casual basis available from 19 October 2026 and the full time salary noted above will be paid pro-rata.
