About the role The Senior Officer Assessments leads the assessment and review of applications under Division 5.1 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979 on behalf of the department.
Key accountabilities
- Lead application assessments and ensure compliance with planning requirements.
- Provide advice and reports to support decisions on complex projects.
- Build strong relationships with government agencies, councils and project teams.
- Set assessment scope, milestones and targets, and monitor progress.
- Manage contractors and advise applicants on planning requirements.
About you
- Lead timely assessment of applications to support school building priorities and legislative requirements.
- Balance planning requirements with school delivery programs and influence stakeholders to support timely outcomes.
- Improve systems and processes to strengthen self-assessment and achieve key targets and deliverables.
- environmental assessment and planning legislation, including the EP&A; Act 1979.
- Manage a portfolio of projects governed by statutory planning requirements.
- Knowledge of and commitment to implementing the Department’s Aboriginal Education Policy and upholding the Department’s Partnership Agreement with the NSW AECG and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people.
Essential requirements of the role
- Relevant tertiary qualifications or equivalent experience in Urban and Regional Planning, Environmental Management/Environmental Science, Engineering, and Project Management
- Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the value of public education.
