About the company

We’re exclusively partnering with a growing Australian technology company building a production communications SaaS platform for the SME market.

The platform brings together phone, SMS, email and web interactions around a single customer, helping businesses maintain context across multiple channels and deliver a more seamless customer experience.

This is a growing product business with a small, senior team and direct access to technical and product leadership. The engineering environment is highly hands-on, customer-focused and built around strong technical ownership.

About the role

We’re looking for a Senior Software Engineer who can take genuine ownership within an existing production platform.

This is not a ticket-taking role. You’ll help understand the problem, shape the technical approach, make architecture and implementation decisions, and own what ultimately reaches production.

The role involves working across an evolved production system where context matters. You’ll need to trace how the platform behaves today, understand hidden dependencies and assumptions, and make thoughtful changes without disrupting customers.

Programmable telephony is a major part of the environment, so hands-on experience with Twilio, Telnyx or an equivalent communications platform is highly valuable.

AI is also central to the way the team works. They are looking for someone who is already using AI-assisted development and coding agents as part of their day-to-day engineering workflow, while still applying strong independent judgement around architecture, code quality and production risk.

Responsibilities

Own the design,



development and evolution of customer-facing production systems

- Build and improve programmable telephony and messaging workflows
- Maintain customer identity and conversation context across multiple communications channels
- Design and integrate APIs and third-party services
- Improve reliability, deployment safety and observability across the platform
- Diagnose complex issues across application, integration and communications boundaries
- Help simplify an existing architecture without disrupting customers or slowing product delivery
- Use AI-assisted development tools extensively while reviewing, validating and taking ownership of the resulting output
- Make pragmatic architecture and engineering decisions based on customer impact, technical risk and business priorities
- Lead effectively with distributed and offshore engineering teams
- Contribute directly to technical direction alongside senior product and technology leadership

Your background and experience We’re looking for an experienced senior software engineer who is comfortable operating in complex production environments and taking ownership beyond just writing code.

Ideally, you’ll bring:

- Robust senior-level software engineering experience
- Current and practical use of AI-assisted development and coding agents
- Hands-on Twilio, Telnyx or comparable programmable telephony experience




- Strong API and third-party integration experience
- Experience building reliable, scalable customer-facing systems
- Strong systems thinking and architecture capability
- Experience debugging across multiple systems and integration boundaries
- Understanding of retries, idempotency, failure handling and state management
- The ability to understand and safely change unfamiliar or rapidly evolved production systems
- High ownership of what you build, ship and operate
- Experience collaborating effectively with offshore and distributed engineering teams
- Clear technical communication and the ability to explain trade-offs

Specific framework experience is less important than strong engineering judgement, systems thinking and the ability to quickly understand an existing production environment.
