Sutherland Shire Council is seeking a strategic and technically accomplished Senior Stormwater Engineer to lead the long-term planning and asset management of a diverse and critical stormwater infrastructure portfolio.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Coordinator Asset Management and Waterways, you will provide specialist engineering and asset management expertise to support the long-term sustainability, performance and resilience of Council's stormwater and flood-related infrastructure assets.

You'll lead the development and implementation of asset management strategies, capital investment programs and lifecycle planning initiatives while providing expert technical advice across a broad range of stormwater and flood management matters.

Your work will directly inform how Council plans, prioritises and invests in critical infrastructure assets worth millions of dollars.

Key responsibilities include

- Developing and implementing stormwater asset management strategies, policies and plans.
- Leading lifecycle planning, scenario modelling and long-term investment forecasting.
- Identifying opportunities to improve asset performance, resilience and service outcomes.
- Preparing annual and multi-year capital works and maintenance programs.




- Initiating and scoping infrastructure projects, including business case development and budget estimation.
- Managing consultants and contractors to deliver specialist projects and studies.
- Maintaining and enhancing Council's asset management systems and practices.
- Facilitating stakeholder engagement, project control groups and cross-functional collaboration.
- Providing expert technical advice relating to stormwater and flood engineering.
- Supporting continuous improvement and innovation across Council's asset management framework.

About You

We're looking for a confident engineering professional who combines strong technical expertise with strategic thinking and stakeholder influence.

You will bring

Essential

- Degree qualifications in Engineering or a related discipline.
- Current Driver Licence.
- Demonstrated experience in stormwater, flood, civil infrastructure or asset management environments.
- Experience managing infrastructure asset portfolios and long-term planning programs.
- Strong analytical capability and the ability to translate technical information into strategic recommendations.
- Proven experience preparing technical reports, specifications, tender documentation, grant submissions and business cases.
- Experience managing consultants, contractors and multidisciplinary stakeholders.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.

Highly Regarded

- Postgraduate qualifications in Stormwater Engineering, Asset Management, Project Management, Business Administration or a related field.
- Knowledge of local government infrastructure planning and asset management frameworks.
- Experience with Asset Management Information Systems.
- Understanding of Integrated Planning and Reporting requirements and the Local Government Act 1993.

- Package: $111,776 to $121,051 gross p.a. plus 12% superannuation.
- Hours of work: Working 35 hours per week. You will have the option of a 19-day month with Council's ADO system (Accrued Day Off).
