Salary Range: LGO6 ($102,640 - $109,563 per annum + superannuation) based on skills, qualifications and experience.

In this influential role, you'll lead the delivery of environmental and sustainability programs that help shape Townsville's future, driving initiatives across areas such as climate resilience, natural environment management, resource efficiency and sustainable development. Working on complex and impactful projects, you'll help translate strategy into action while delivering positive outcomes for Council and the community.

As a trusted advisor and leader, you'll collaborate with a broad range of stakeholders, including government agencies, industry, community groups and funding partners, to build strong relationships and maximise opportunities. You'll also provide technical leadership and mentorship across the organisation, fostering innovation, continuous improvement and best-practice sustainability outcomes that enhance the liveability and environmental resilience of our city.

About you:

You are a passionate environmental and sustainability professional who thrives on delivering meaningful outcomes for communities and the environment. With robust project leadership experience and a collaborative approach, you can navigate complex challenges, build effective partnerships and turn strategic priorities into practical, measurable results.

To be successful in this role, you will have:

- Qualifications in Sustainability, Environmental Science, Environmental Management or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.




- Demonstrated experience delivering complex environmental and sustainability projects, including budget management, procurement, contracts, grants and governance.
- Strong knowledge of contemporary sustainability practices, including climate adaptation, energy management, circular economy and environmental restoration.
- Proven ability to identify and manage project risks while delivering positive environmental, financial and operational outcomes.
- Excellent stakeholder engagement skills, with experience building productive relationships across government, industry, community and funding bodies.
- Experience securing and managing grant funding and preparing high-quality proposals, acquittals and reports.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to influence, advise and communicate effectively with diverse audiences.
- A commitment to safety, innovation, continuous improvement and delivering sustainable outcomes for the community.
