About Cirrus Power Systems

Cirrus Power Systems is a Newcastle-based specialist in the service, overhaul and support of reciprocating gas and diesel engines used for power generation. We keep power stations running for mining, industrial and commercial clients right across Australia – from our Waratah workshop to remote 24/7 mine-site power stations.

The role

We are looking for a Service Technician to join our Service team on a full-time, permanent basis. You will carry out maintenance, repairs, overhauls, fault finding and commissioning on gas and diesel engines and generator sets, working in our Newcastle workshop and at client sites – including FIFO rotations at remote power stations and occasional international travel.

What you’ll do

- Scheduled and breakdown maintenance on gas and diesel reciprocating engines to OEM specifications
- Workshop and field overhauls, rebuilds and component replacement – including measuring, inspection and machining/fitting of engine components
- Diagnose and fix mechanical faults; read schematics and P&IDs; and fault-find LV control circuits
- Engine start-ups, commissioning and return-to-service after maintenance




- Support shutdowns, outages and emergency breakdown response
- Complete service reports, QA/QC documentation and CMMS work orders (e.g. Pronto)
- Help with job prep, parts listings and parts picking; build strong relationships with our clients
- Work safely every day – JHEA/SWMS, permits, isolations and toolbox talks

What you’ll bring

- Trade qualification in a mechanical or metal trade (fitting, machining, diesel/engine mechanics or equivalent)
- At least 2 years’ hands-on experience servicing, overhauling and troubleshooting reciprocating gas and/or diesel engines
- Practical workshop skills, including lathe work and precision measuring
- Confidence working independently and as part of a team
- Willingness to travel at short notice, including FIFO site work
- Positive communication skills and basic MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Current driver’s licence

Highly regarded

- Experience with Jenbacher, MWM, MAN, Wärtsilä or Caterpillar gas engines
- Overhaul, shutdown and commissioning experience
- Crane, forklift, working at heights or confined space tickets
