Position Summary:

The role supports project and site leaders, working across multiple Melbourne projects. The Site Safety Advisor supports safe delivery of construction and fit-out projects by providing practical advice, verifying critical controls in the field and helping project teams identify and resolve risks before work proceeds.

The Safety Advisor works alongside site leadership and subcontractors, escalates serious concerns promptly and supports the organisation’s safety management system.

Key Responsibilities:

- Partner with project and site teams during mobilisation, prestart planning, daily coordination and changes to scope, sequence or site conditions.
- Review project risk assessments, site safety plans and safe work method statements (SWMS) for high-risk construction work; check that relevant workers understand and follow the controls on site.
- Conduct planned site inspections and critical control checks covering but not limited to work at heights, scaffolds and elevated work platforms, lifting operations, mobile plant and traffic, electrical work and isolation, hot work, hazardous substances and silica exposure, and interfaces with other trades.
- Support subcontractor onboarding and verification of inductions, construction induction cards, applicable high risk work licences, competencies, plant documentation and task specific requirements.




- Submit client documentation requests into reporting contractor and client reporting systems
- Facilitate site inductions, prestart discussions, toolbox talks and consultation with workers, health and safety representatives and subcontractors, communicate lessons in transparent language.
- Identify unsafe conditions and emerging risks, agree practical actions with responsible managers, track closure and verify that controls work in practice.
- Respond to incidents and near misses, preserve information, support notifications and investigations, identify contributing factors and follow corrective actions through to completion.
- Assist with emergency readiness, first aid arrangements, drills and coordination with the principal contractor and client where applicable.
- Maintain accurate site records, inspection findings, incident data and assurance reports in the nominated safety system, provide concise trends and priorities to project leadership.
- Escalate imminent or serious risk immediately and support stopping or isolating unsafe work until suitable controls are established.

Qualifications/Skills:

- Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or Occupational Health and Safety, or a higher relevant qualification; equivalent substantial construction safety experience may be considered.




- Current construction induction card recognised in Victoria and a current driver licence.
- Demonstrated experience in a site-based safety role within data centre, commercial construction, fit out, building services or a closely related sector.
- Working knowledge of the Victorian Occupational Health and Safety Act 2004, Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2017, applicable compliance codes and construction SWMS requirements.
- Ability to review SWMS and risk controls, investigate incidents, coach supervisors and engage respectfully with subcontractors and frontline workers.
- Sound report writing and competence with digital safety systems.

Measures of success :

- Critical controls are verified in the field and significant gaps are escalated and resolved promptly.
- SWMS, inductions, competencies and subcontractor controls are current and reflected in the work actually performed.
- Incidents and near misses are reported promptly, investigation actions are assigned, tracked and verified.
- Project teams and subcontractors use safety advice to improve planning, consultation and day-to-day execution.
