Be Recruitment has partnered with SDN Children's Services, a not-for-profit with more than 120 years of history, to find their next Speech Pathologist at SDN Beranga, a purpose-built autism-specific preschool in Rooty Hill supporting 27 children a day. Your sessions are still 1:1, but in their day-to-day setting.

The role

You'll work entirely in office, delivering play-based communication support inside preschool routines (learning, play, mealtimes) and focused family sessions in the clinic rooms. Around 5 hours of direct child and family contact a day; notes, planning and team time sit inside your paid hours.

You'll work in genuine partnership with families: communication strategies that carry into home routines, and goals set with parents who are deeply invested. In a service this size, 27 children a day, you see the same families every week and you see progress happen. That's a kind of impact a mobile caseload rarely gives you.

While taking the briefing, I asked what the days actually feel like. The answer, in short: it's a settled, well-supported service. Big feelings are part of any preschool; here they're met by educators who step in, a behaviour support practitioner on-site every day, and a manager who brings the behavioural lens to your caseload. You're never the only adult in the room.

Days are flexible: three days a week with Tuesday preferred, and you choose your hours, 8-4, 9-5 or 10-6.

There's real scope to grow to full-time as the service grows,



and with current reforms steering more early intervention funding toward NFP providers, that possibility keeps strengthening.

The team A small multidisciplinary team on one site: an OT, a behaviour support practitioner, and early childhood teachers, with the service manager (a behaviour analyst) meeting regularly with the team for behavioural perspective and clinical support. Collaboration is the default; you'll never carry a caseload alone.

Current to autism or the NDIS? The ramp-up is deliberately smooth: structured shadowing and observation over the first few months before you take a full caseload.

The money

$45.00-$51.50 per hour + super (approximately $88,000-$101,500 full-time equivalent).

As an NFP, SDN offers salary packaging up to $15,900 plus a $2,650 meal and entertainment benefit, both pre-tax. The caps don't shrink because you work part-time, so packaging both is worth roughly $5,000 to $6,500 a year in tax saved, or the equivalent of $7,000 - 10,000 extra salary in a private role. That makes this a strong base alongside private contracting on your other days,



and a meaningful boost if you're re-entering the workforce.

About you

Above all: you love working with children. The team is looking for gentle, engaged people who genuinely enjoy kids' company, and that matters more to them than years on the CV.

- Recognised qualification in Speech Pathology, eligibility for SPA membership
- Open to new grads, early-career clinicians, returning-to-work parents, hospital clinicians moving into community paediatrics, and NZ-trained SPs
- You don't need autism or NDIS experience; curiosity about how autistic children communicate, and a play-based, capacity-building instinct, matter more
- WWCC and NDIS Worker Screening (or willing to obtain)
