Position title: Structural Engineer

Organization: EBNI—Engineering Building & Infrastructure

Location: Schofields NSW, with site attendance across Greater Sydney

Reports to: Senior Structural & Civil Engineer (Principal)

Direct reports: None; may supervise graduate engineers and drafters

Employment type: Full-time, permanent

Classification: Professional Engineer Level 2–3 (Professional Employees Award 2020)

Position purpose The Structural Engineer designs, documents and certifies safe, buildable and economical structures for EBNI's building, development and infrastructure projects. The role delivers work that complies with the NCC and Australian Standards, from concept through construction, for private developers, builders and government clients.

Key accountabilities

Structural design and analysis

- Analyse and design structures in reinforced and post-tensioned concrete, steel, timber and masonry to AS/NZS 1170, AS 3600, AS 4100, AS 1720, AS 3700 and AS 2159.
- Design footings, piles, retaining walls and slabs using geotechnical reports, in line with AS 2870 and AS 4678.
- Build and verify analysis models (e.g. SPACE GASS, ETABS, RAM Concept) and prepare clear, checkable calculation packages.
- Apply safety in design and develop cost-effective structural systems.

Documentation

- Prepare and check structural drawings, details and specifications, coordinating with drafters in Revit or AutoCAD.
- Coordinate structural design with architectural, civil, hydraulic, mechanical and geotechnical disciplines.

Certification and compliance





- Prepare design compliance declarations and certificates under the Design and Building Practitioners Act 2020 (NSW) and Professional Engineers Registration Act 2019 (NSW), within the scope of registration.
- Support DA, CDC and construction certificate submissions and respond to certifier and council requests.

Construction phase

- Carry out site inspections of footings, reinforcement, formwork and structural steel, and issue inspection reports.
- Respond to RFIs, review shop drawings and assess design changes and non-conformances.

Existing structures

- Assess existing buildings and infrastructure for defects, alterations, remediation and adaptive reuse.
- Prepare condition, dilapidation and structural adequacy reports.

Client and project delivery

- Manage assigned projects to scope, program and fee, and keep clients informed of progress and risks.
- Contribute to fee proposals, tenders and government supplier submissions.
- Mentor graduate engineers and review their work.

Key relationships: Principal engineer: Direction, design review, certification sign-off

Graduate engineers and drafters: Supervision, work allocation, checking

Clients (developers, builders, government agencies, councils): Briefs, progress, advice, deliverables

Architects and other consultants: Design coordination

Certifiers and councils: Approvals and compliance

Builders and subcontractors: Inspections, RFIs, construction advice





Selection criteria

Essential

- Bachelor of Engineering (Civil or Structural) accredited by Engineers Australia.
- Registered, or eligible to register, as a Skilled Engineer (structural) under the Professional Engineers Registration Act 2019 (NSW).
- At least 3 years of structural design experience in Australia on residential, commercial or infrastructure projects.
- Sound working knowledge of the NCC and relevant Australian Standards.
- Proficiency in structural analysis and design software.
- Clear written and verbal communication, including technical reports.
- Ability to manage several projects at once and meet deadlines.
- Current NSW WHS General Construction Induction (White Card) and a driver licence.

Desirable

- Chartered status (CPEng) or listing on the National Engineering Register.
- Registration as a Design Practitioner (structural) under the Design and Building Practitioners Act 2020 (NSW).
- Experience with class 2 buildings, remedial work or government infrastructure.
- Experience in post-tensioned concrete or geotechnical design.
- Working knowledge of Revit, AutoCAD or Tekla.

WHS, quality and conduct

- Follow the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (NSW) and EBNI safety procedures, especially on construction sites.
- Work within EBNI's quality system: independent checking, design verification and document control.
- Maintain continuing professional development (CPD) to keep registration current.
- Act in line with the Engineers Australia Code of Ethics and treat colleagues and clients with respect.

Pay: $140,311.77 – $179,808.36 per year Work Location: Hybrid remote in Sydney NSW
