Scientific Officer - Microbiology/Molecular

We provide services to medical practitioners, private hospitals and aged care facilities in both the ACT and regional surrounds (Southern Tablelands, Snowy Mountains and South Coast NSW).

The Opportunity

We have a part-time/full-time opportunity available in Canberra for an enthusiastic, self-motivated people to work as part of our dedicated team providing quality customer service. We are looking for dedicated individuals who can interact well with people, demonstrate high level verbal and written communication skills, have a passion for delivering quality outcomes for customers and the organisation.

About The Role

We are seeking a qualified and motivated Scientific Officer to join our Clinical Microbiology/Molecular team. You will play a key role in the processing, analysing and reporting of microbiological specimens, providing accurate and timely diagnosis to our doctors and patients.

Day to Day duties include:

- Promote and display our company values at all times
- Process a wide range of clinical specimens for bacteriology, mycology, parasitology and virology
- Performing culture identification, susceptibility testing and molecular diagnostics
- Operate and maintaining laboratory equipment in compliance with NATA and ISO15189 standards
- Participate in quality assurance programs and continuous improvement initiatives




- Collaborate with pathologists and clinicians to support clinical decision-making

Applicants should possess the following:

- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Tertiary qualifications in Medical Laboratory Science (or equivalent) from a University in Australia or completed the AIMS professional assessment exam.
- Experience in a diagnostic microbiology laboratory
- Solid understanding of infection control, biosafety and quality control
- Excellent attention to detail, good communication and problem solving skills
- Flexibility with hours of work (early mornings, evenings, weekends etc) including participation on a rotational on call roster
- Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing priorities
- You must be an Australian citizen or permanent resident or a New Zealand citizen, or hold a valid visa with permission to work

Salary range is $33.63 - $48.66 per hour dependent on experience.
