About the Position The Distress Brief Support Program supports people experiencing distress by providing timely, practical and compassionate assistance, helping people feel heard, supported and connected with the right services. The program works across Whyalla and surrounding regional communities, with a strong focus on early intervention, reducing stigma and making support easier to access

As a Support Worker, you will provide short-term, trauma-informed and person-centred support to people experiencing distress. You will help individuals navigate services and referral pathways, provide practical and emotional support, and engage with community organisations, workplaces and local services.

As a Peer Mentor, you will draw appropriately on your lived experience to connect with and support people experiencing distress. Through peer-based, trauma-informed support, you will help build trust, encourage hope and empowerment, and assist people to connect with services and community supports.

About You To be successful in this role you will have:

- A Certificate IV in a relevant human services qualification (or be working towards completion)
- Experience in providing support in mental health or community settings
- Knowledge of trauma-informed and culturally safe practices
- Experience in working in a highly confidential manner
- Demonstrated high level of communication skills (listening, verbal and written)
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative
- Demonstrated ability to function as a cooperative member of a team to achieve team objectives
- Administrative skills and ability to maintain client files and contribute to program reports
- Demonstrated high level of ability in using Information Technology and Microsoft Office programs.

Requirements of the role:




- Hold (or willingness to obtain) a current DHS Working With Children Check *
- Hold (or a willingness to obtain) a National Criminal History Record Check (Police Check) *
- Hold a current South Australian Driver’s License (minimum Provisional License)
