Location - Bundiyarra Cultural Precinct - Geraldton

Employment Status - Full-time - 30 hours per week

Remuneration - Annual Gross Salary - $60,000 (excluding oncosts)

About the role The EH Assistant will deliver environmental health services, inspections, assessments, and community education across Aboriginal communities in the Midwest–Gascoyne region. Support the AEH Team in improving living conditions, reducing environmental health risks, and promoting community wellbeing. This role reflects responsibilities commonly held by Environmental Health Practitioners in WA Aboriginal communities, including housing health checks, water and waste monitoring, vector control, food safety support, environmental health reporting, and culturally respectful community engagement.

ABOUT BUNDIYARRA ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH The vision of the Environmental Health Program is to provide educational, promotional, support and service support and delivery to the Geraldton region and outlying communities of Pia Wajarri, Kardaloo and Barrel Well. The program specifically aims to reduce the effects of the poor environmental health conditions, that can be exacerbated by crowded housing, contributing significantly to the excess burden of infectious disease and chronic illness including trachoma and rheumatic heart disease (RHD), both of which disproportionately affect Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people living in regional and remote communities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES





- Conduct environmental health inspections and assessments in Aboriginal communities.
- Support fieldwork activities including housing health checks, water quality assessments, waste management reviews, food safety checks, and vector control.
- Assist with community education programs on hygiene, waste management, water safety, and disease prevention.
- Collect environmental health data and contribute to reporting and documentation.
- Support environmental health projects including infrastructure improvements and community clean‑ups.
- Engage respectfully with Elders, community members, and partner organisations.

Roles and Responsibilities

- Conduct housing health assessments including plumbing, ventilation, structural safety, and sanitation.
- Monitor water quality, waste disposal systems, and environmental hazards.
- Assist with mosquito and vector control strategies including surveillance and treatment.
- Support food safety inspections in community kitchens, stores, and food preparation areas.
- Participate in environmental health risk assessments and identify hazards.
- Assist with community education sessions and health promotion activities.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, assessments, and community interactions.
- Ensure confidentiality and respectful engagement with community members.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE & CHECKS

Essential Qualifications

- Qualification in Environmental Health, Community Health, or related field (or working towards).
- Training in environmental health inspection or assessment.
- Basic competency in environmental health fieldwork.

Desirable Qualifications

- Diploma or Degree in Environmental Health (or willing to work towards)
- Certificate IV in Training and Assessment.
- HR Licence
- First Aid Certificate.

Essential Experience





- Experience delivering environmental health services in Aboriginal communities.
- Experience conducting environmental health inspections or assessments.
- Experience working in ACCO, NFP, government, or community organisations.

Desirable Experience

- Experience in vector control, water testing, food safety, or housing health assessments.
- Experience supporting community education programs.
- Experience working with local governments or environmental health agencies.
- Experience in grounds maintenance (operating and maintenance of lawn mower, brush cutter, chain saw, weed control.
- HR Licence
- Experience with Microsoft Word and Microsoft Excel.
- First Aid Certificate

- Able to work away from home for up to 7 days at a time, multiple times per year.
- Ability to complete a company medical assessment and drug screen.

- C Class Drivers Licence – Open manual drivers licence (Not currently serving or about to serve a period of disqualification or cancellation. No traffic related offences pending). Own transport.
