Flexible working arrangements, meaningful public sector work, and non ongoing or Section 26 opportunities with Your new company A high profile Australian Government agency is seeking an experienced APS5 FOI Officer to join a collaborative and fast-paced team responsible for managing Freedom of Information requests and supporting transparency and information access obligations.
This is an excellent opportunity for candidates with experience in FOI, administrative decision making, information governance, privacy, legal support, or governance functions who are looking to further develop their career within the APS.
Your New Role As an FOI Officer, you will support the management of Freedom of Information matters from initial request through to final determination. Working closely with internal stakeholders, you will be responsible for gathering information, reviewing documents, preparing recommendations, and ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and government policy.
Key responsibilities include
- Managing a caseload of FOI requests in accordance with legislative and procedural requirements.
- Conducting document searches and coordinating responses across business areas.
- Assessing and reviewing information for potential exemptions and redactions.
- Preparing correspondence, decision documents, briefs and reports.
- Liaising with internal stakeholders and external applicants.
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives within the FOI function.
- Supporting broader information governance and privacy-related activities as required.
What You'll Need to Succeed To be successful in this role, you will demonstrate:
- Previous experience managing or supporting Freedom of Information requests.
- Strong written communication and document drafting skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and the ability to analyse complex information.
- Sound judgement and the ability to interpret legislation, policies and procedures.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
