Johnny Come Lately, a thriving deli and coffee shop in the Adelaide CBD, has now opened its own dedicated bakery.

We’re looking for an aspiring baker to join our small artisan baking team.

This is a great opportunity for someone who is genuinely interested in sourdough baking and wants to build real industry skills.

You’ll work alongside experienced bakers and get hands-on experience across sourdough, fermentation, mixing, shaping, proving and baking, while learning how a professional production bakery actually operates.

What you'll be doing

You’ll be involved in the day-to-day production of our bread, including:

- Mixing and preparing dough

- Dividing and shaping loaves

- Sourdough and long fermentation processes

- Using our skilled retarder/proofer and deck oven

- Loading and baking bread

- Keeping the bakery clean, organised and running efficiently

- Learning and following our recipes and production systems

You’ll gradually take on more responsibility as your skills develop.

Who we're looking for





You don't need to be a fully qualified baker.

We're much more interested in someone who is:

- Genuinely passionate about baking

- Keen to learn and improve

- Reliable and hardworking

- Interested in bread and fermentation

- Physically capable of working on your feet and handling dough and trays

- Someone who takes pride in producing things properly
- A good team player who is happy to get stuck in

Some bakery experience is great, but a strong attitude and genuine interest in baking are more important.

- Location: Adelaide CBD

- Employment: Casual, with the opportunity for ongoing hours

- Hours: Morning bakery shifts, primarily Monday–Friday

This is a very rare opportunity to work closely with an experienced Artisan baker on genuine sourdough products. The right candidate will have the opportunity to learn from the ground up with a career pathway to head baker.
