About the role

JP Light & Sound is looking for another great person to join our team as we head into peak event season. This is a varied casual role across AV and event production, sales, customer service, admin and inventory.

We're not necessarily looking for one specific type of person.

You might already be an experienced AV technician looking to pick up additional shifts around your existing work. You might be excellent with customers and naturally good at turning an enquiry into the right solution. Or you might have experience across both.

If you're primarily interested in technical/event work, that's completely fine. We're happy to hear from experienced AV people looking to pick up additional shifts.

At the same time, we're looking to strengthen our sales, admin and customer service team, so someone who is confident with customers and sales and can also contribute to AV/event work would be a great fit.

You don't need to tick every box. The more you can bring to the role, the more opportunities we can provide.

What you'll be doing

Depending on your experience and strengths, the role may include:

- Answering phone and email enquiries
- Helping customers work out what equipment or services they actually need
- Preparing quotes and assisting with bookings
- Recommending suitable additional equipment or services
- Serving customers collecting and returning hire equipment
- Booking equipment in and out through our hire management system
- Preparing, testing and putting away equipment
- Assisting our inventory team with preparing orders, checking returns and putting away stock
- Loading, setting up and packing down audio, lighting, staging, truss and vision equipment
- Working as an AV technician across events and productions
- Assisting with general technical and production duties onsite
- Working as part of the crew on larger events and productions
- Operating audio, lighting or vision equipment where experienced
- Mixing live bands where experienced

There genuinely isn't a typical day. One shift might be spent answering enquiries and serving customers from our Norwood warehouse, another preparing a large production, and another onsite as part of an event crew.





Sales & Customer Service

For the customer-facing side of the role, we're looking for more than someone who simply processes an enquiry. Customers often know what they want to achieve without necessarily knowing what equipment or services they need.

We want someone willing to ask the right questions, understand the event, make useful recommendations and build a relationship with the customer.

We can teach you our inventory, systems and the solutions we offer. What we're particularly looking for is someone who is personable, attentive, commercially minded and proactive with customers.

AV & Event Production

Previous AV, events or production experience is highly regarded, particularly experience with:

- Live audio and mixing bands
- Lighting operation
- Vision/video systems
- Staging and truss
- Event setup and pack-down
- Professional AV equipment
- Equipment hire
- General onsite technical work

If you're already an experienced operator who can confidently take responsibility for the AV on a suitable job, that's particularly valuable to us and can open up additional technical work quickly. However, you don't need to be an expert operator to apply. If you have some relevant experience, a valuable technical mindset and the right attitude, we're happy to train and develop the right person.

About you

- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Technically minded, practical or generally handy
- Physically capable of the hands-on work involved in event production




- Flexible with availability where possible, including some nights and weekends
- Someone who takes initiative and pride in doing things properly

A current driver's licence is essential.

Hours & pay

This is a casual position with variable hours, generally around 5–30 hours per week, depending on workload, availability and your skill set. There is no guaranteed minimum number of hours each week. The flexibility can make the position particularly suitable for someone already working casually or freelance within the AV/events industry who wants to pick up additional shifts around their existing commitments.

Casual rates start from approximately $37 per hour for applicable weekday work.

Experienced staff undertaking technical/operations work may attract approximately $47–$55 per hour, depending on experience, responsibilities and the work being performed.

Applicable penalty and overtime rates apply for nights, weekends and extended hours, with some shifts attracting rates of up to approximately $67 per hour.

We're heading into our busiest period of the year, making this a great opportunity to start working with the team, get familiar with our equipment and systems and show us what you can do.

For the right person, there is also scope for the role to develop beyond peak season, particularly within our admin, sales and customer service team.
