About the Organisation Transfolk WA is a not-for-profit, peer support organisation with a Vision, that all trans and gender diverse people are valued and empowered members of communities. Incorporated in 2017, Transfolk WA’s Purpose is to inform, empower, and advocate for trans and gender diverse people to survive and thrive in Western Australia. We provide support services, community spaces, advocacy, education and training, events and continue to expand our services and reach to best serve our community.

About the Role Transfolk WA is seeking nominations for the Board ahead of our upcoming 2026 Annual General Meeting.

The Transfolk WA Board oversees the strategic direction and governance of our organisation. The Board provides direction and support to our Chief Executive Officer and works to achieve the best outcomes in service delivery, advocacy and support for the trans and gender diverse community of Western Australia.

Transfolk WA is looking for capable, skilled and enthusiastic individuals to join the Board. We welcome a range of technical knowledge and skills, as well as community and lived experience, all which assist the Board in navigating relevant matters as we grow the organisation’s operations. We welcome applicants who feel strongly about contributing to the trans and gender diverse community in WA to apply.

Currently, Transfolk WA is prioritising the recruitment of some the following skills:

- experience in legal matters
- information technology and systems management
- navigating the healthcare system
- navigating housing and/or residential care
- navigating disability support services.

These skills are desirable, not essential. We highly encourage folks looking to build their governance skills to apply if interested, especially trans men and First Nations people (currently underrepresented on the Board).

Key ResponsibilitiesAll Board members are expected to:





- Uphold Transfolk WA’s purpose and values; act in the best interest of the organisation; and avoid and actively manage any conflicts of interest
- Participate actively in Board meetings and subcommittees as required
- Contribute to the development and oversight of Transfolk WA’s strategic goals and initiatives, financial performance, and sustainability
- Provide insights and recommendations on key decisions to strengthen Transfolk WA’s programs and operations
- Provide expertise in your area of knowledge to support organisational objectives
- Act as an ambassador for Transfolk WA, promoting its vision and purpose to external stakeholders; and build connections with potential partners, sponsors, and stakeholders
- Contribute to the organisation’s good governance, risk management, and regulatory compliance including the ACNC Governance Standards

Experience & Capabilities Essential
- A demonstrated passion for Transfolk WA’s purpose to support the trans and gender diverse community of WA
- Understanding of the not-for-profit sector and challenges that can arise from support, service delivery, and advocacy
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Commitment to governance best practices and willingness to comply with regulatory standards and relevant organisational policies

Desirable
- Lived experience as a member of the trans and gender diverse community
- Experience serving on a Board or in a leadership role
- Experience in a relevant setting as outlined above in this advertisement,



or relevant qualification/professional certification

Commitment
- Attend quarterly Board meetings
- Participate in additional meetings, such as Subcommittees, or events as required
- Prepare for and contribute to strategic discussions and decision-making
- Approximate total commitment is 4 hours per month
- Applicants seeking to serve for at least three years are preferred

Transfolk WA is based in Boorloo (Perth) on Whadjuk Noongar Country, and serves trans and gender diverse folks across WA.

We encourage Board nominations from folks throughout WA, and value regional representation. Board Meetings take place in Hybrid format (online and in person).
