About the role

We are seeking a Building Surveyor to join the Health and Building Services team. We are open to full-time or part-time, with flexible working arrangements including hybrid, to make the position work for the right person.

This role could be a excellent fit for an experienced Building Surveyor looking for a more flexible approach to work. In this role, you will play a critical role in protecting public safety, health and amenity by ensuring that building works comply with the applicable legislation, standards and any other relevant regulatory requirement. You will exercise significant professional judgement and discretion within a complex regulatory environment and may represent the City in legal proceedings, State Administrative Tribunal matters, interagency forums and industry consultations where required.

Key accountabilities include, but are not limited to;

- Assess and determine complex building applications in accordance with the Building Act 2011, Building Regulations 2012, National Construction Code, relevant Australian Standards and associated legislation.
- Exercise delegated statutory authority in relation to building approvals, compliance determinations and regulatory decisions.
- Ensure statutory timeframes and service standards are achieved.
- Provide expert technical advice on enforcement options and appropriate regulatory responses to matters involving non-compliance with building legislation.
- Assist in the development and implementation of innovative strategies and policies to meet changing industry needs.
- Assist with the training and development of new staff members.





About you The successful candidate will have the following:

- Level 1 or Level 2 Building Surveyor, registered under the Western Australian Building Services (Registration) Act 2011;
- Experience assessing building applications for compliance with the NCC Building Code of Australia;
- Ability to interpret building legislation and provide advice and information to internal and external customers in a timely and customer focussed manner;
- “C” Class drivers licence;
- A satisfactory National Police Certificate is required.
