Title: Chief Monk The monk appointed to this position is responsible for the following:
Abide by and uphold the code of conduct established by the Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastic Order.
Practise and teach the teachings of the Buddha and ensure that the Theravada Buddhist monastic code is observed within the Monastery.
Reside at the Monastery and provide overall spiritual, religious and monastic leadership.
Plan, organise and lead daily, weekly and monthly religious activities, including Dhamma sermons, meditation programs, retreats and Buddhist observances.
Prepare activity and duty schedules, supervise Resident Monks, assign their responsibilities and provide them with spiritual guidance.
Provide spiritual advice and pastoral care to devotees, including counselling families, supporting the sick and bereaved,
and offering blessings to couples and expectant mothers.
Conduct blessings and other special religious ceremonies in accordance with Buddhist traditions.
Maintain the discipline of the Monastery and ensure that its religious activities are conducted respectfully and consistently with the Monastic Order’s requirements.
Coordinate the Monastery’s administrative and community activities with its management committee.
Represent the Monastery in its dealings with the Mahamevnawa Buddhist Monastic Order, government agencies, other religious institutions and community organisations.
