Your new role:
As the Clinical Nurse Consultant - Emergency Department Flow, you will provide advanced clinical expertise and leadership within Emergency Medicine, with a particular focus on facilitating safe, efficient and timely patient journeys through the Emergency Department and into inpatient care. Working with nursing and multidisciplinary teams, you will identify and address barriers to admission, discharge and patient movement while supporting staff to deliver high-quality, person-centred care.
In this role, you will:
Provide advanced clinical leadership and expert nursing advice within the Emergency Department.
Facilitate patient flow through the Emergency Department and inpatient admissions, supporting timely and efficient care.
Identify barriers affecting patient admission, discharge and movement and work with clinicians to develop practical solutions.
Respond appropriately to periods of overcrowding, surge activity and severe access block in accordance with escalation plans.
About you:
We are looking for an experienced Registered Nurse who brings advanced Emergency nursing knowledge, strong clinical leadership and a commitment to improving the patient journey. You will be confident working autonomously in a complex and quick-paced environment, with the ability to coordinate care, respond to changing demands and influence positive outcomes across multidisciplinary teams.
You will bring:
Demonstrated advanced clinical knowledge, skills and experience in Emergency nursing practice.
Experience working with Emergency Department and patient flow KPIs, specialist standards and strategies that improve the patient journey.
Proven ability to lead teams, support staff development and build a positive, collaborative practice environment.
Advanced clinical judgement, critical thinking and problem-solving skills in a dynamic Emergency environment.

About us:
The Princess Alexandra Hospital (PAH) is a Level 6 major referral centre, offering tertiary referral service to Brisbane South and surrounding areas. All adult specialities are provided with the exception of obstetrics, gynaecological and burns services. The PAH Emergency Department (ED) is one of the largest adult teaching hospital Emergency Departments in Australia.
The Emergency
Department attends to over 70,000 patients each year and admits approximately 35% patients into the hospital for specialist care. Within the Emergency Department is a designated ED Mental Health assessment area and a Toxicology Unit.
