Mackay Regional Council is seeking an experienced and practical Construction Inspector to join our Development Planning and Engineering team. This hands-on role is ideal for someone who enjoys being out on site, inspecting residential subdivisions, commercial and industrial developments, working with developers, contractors and consultants, and helping ensure civil infrastructure is delivered safely, compliantly and to a standard our community can rely on.

About this opportunity

As Construction Inspector, you will provide monitoring, inspection and technical support across active development and infrastructure sites. Much of your day will be spent out on site, supported by access to a work vehicle, with time in the office to complete inspection reports, review documentation, update records and follow up compliance matters.

You will act as a key point of contact between Council and the construction industry, providing clear advice, maintaining accurate records and helping resolve site-based issues in a professional and solutions-focused way.

What You Will Be Doing

- Inspect civil construction works to ensure compliance with Council approvals, conditions, standards and specifications.
- Conduct audit, hold-point, practical completion and acceptance inspections across development and infrastructure projects.
- Review engineering drawings, as-constructed documentation, technical reports and quality records.
- Prepare clear inspection reports, site notes and correspondence to support effective decision-making.
- Liaise professionally with developers, contractors, consultants and internal Council teams.
- Provide practical technical advice on construction matters, site issues and compliance requirements.
- Support continuous improvement of procedures, guidelines and construction standards.
- Contribute to the safe,



efficient and high-quality delivery of infrastructure for the Mackay region.

About you You are a confident and organised construction professional with strong civil infrastructure knowledge and a practical understanding of site-based construction delivery. If you have strong site experience, can read plans, identify issues and communicate clearly, this could be a great next step. You may bring trade experience, such as plumbing, or extensive civil construction experience, and you are comfortable balancing safety, quality, compliance and customer service in a local government environment. To be successful in this role, you will ideally bring:

- Experience in civil infrastructure construction, inspection or supervision, or a relevant trade background such as plumbing.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, approvals and technical documentation.
- Strong organisation skills and the ability to manage site inspections, compliance follow-up, documentation and competing priorities.
- Sound knowledge of quality, safety and environmental requirements on construction sites.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including clear site discussions, report writing and accurate record keeping.
- Well-developed interpersonal, negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- A current Queensland C class driver licence.
- A General Construction Induction White Card.
- Relevant civil construction qualifications, such as Certificate III or Certificate IV in Civil Construction, will be highly regarded.

- Stream A Level 4 – 5 $95,769.76 - $104,821.68 ( the level offered will be determined based on the successful candidate’s qualifications and experience )
