At Western Health, our Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery Unit provides acute emergency, trauma, and elective reconstructive care across one of Australia's fastest-growing, most culturally diverse communities. Operating within designated "home" theatres and specialised inpatient wards across Sunshine and Footscray Hospitals , our surgical teams deliver continuity of care from the trauma bay through complex reconstruction and post-operative hand therapy.

As a Consultant Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeon (or Post-Fellowship Specialist), you will step into a collegial, progressive unit backed by established clinical governance. You will lead operative lists, participate in an on-call trauma roster, direct multidisciplinary peer reviews, and mentor the next generation of surgical registrars and medical students—all within an environment that respects your clinical autonomy and professional wellbeing.

Surgical Scope & Clinical Leadership

Collaborating closely with orthopaedics, general surgery, oncological services, and emergency teams, your responsibilities include:





- Operative & Inpatient Excellence: Lead elective and emergency plastic and reconstructive surgery lists across both adult and paediatric patient cohorts.
- Complex Trauma Reconstruction: Provide specialist surgical interventions for acute soft-tissue trauma, upper limb and hand injuries, complex wounds, and microvascular reconstructions.
- Multidisciplinary Partnership: Collaborate actively with specialist nursing, allied health teams (including Western Health’s dedicated Hand Therapy service), and outpatient clinics to achieve optimal functional recovery.
- Surgical Training & Academic Mentorship: Provide structured bedside teaching, operative supervision, and formal education for junior medical staff, accredited RACS surgical trainees, and university medical students.
- Clinical Governance & Quality: Direct clinical audit evaluations, morbidity and mortality reviews, and service development initiatives aligned with Western Health’s Best Care framework.

What You Bring

- Specialist Registration: Unconditional registration as a Medical Practitioner with AHPRA, accompanied by specialist recognition in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
- RACS Fellowship: Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (or recognised international equivalent).
