About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate and motivated DATS Counsellor to join our Drug and Alcohol Treatment Service (DATS) based in Geraldton.

Reporting to the Regional Manager Midwest, this role delivers evidence-based, non-residential alcohol and other drug (AOD) treatment and support services within a Continuing Care model. You will provide counselling, assessment, case management, advocacy, aftercare, and referral support to individuals, families, and significant others affected by alcohol and other drug use.

Working with people at various stages of their recovery journey, you will support clients transitioning from residential treatment, facilitate referrals into rehabilitation programs, and help individuals build sustainable pathways to recovery. This role offers the prospect to make a meaningful difference within the Midwest community through flexible, person-centred, and culturally responsive service delivery.

Key Responsibilities Include:

- Deliver evidence-based alcohol and other drug counselling, assessment, and case management services.
- Conduct comprehensive assessments, treatment planning, brief interventions, and psychosocial support.
- Support individuals, families, and significant others impacted by alcohol and other drug use.
- Develop personalised recovery plans that promote long-term wellbeing and positive outcomes.
- Provide relapse prevention, aftercare support, and recovery-focused transition planning.
- Facilitate referrals and support access to detoxification, rehabilitation, mental health, housing, and other support services.
- Assist clients with intake and assessment processes for residential treatment programs.
- Deliver outreach services through centre-based, community-based, home visit,



and virtual service delivery options.
- Maintain accurate client records and comply with contractual, organisational, and reporting requirements.
- Build solid referral pathways and collaborative relationships with community, health, and government stakeholders.
- Participate in clinical supervision, reflective practice, quality improvement activities, and professional development.
- Contribute to community education, harm minimisation initiatives, and health promotion activities.

You'll Need

Essential Requirements

- Tertiary qualification in Counselling, Psychology, Social Work, Mental Health, Community Services, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
- Experience delivering alcohol and other drug services and knowledge of available treatment and support pathways.
- Experience providing counselling, case management, and mental health support services.




- Demonstrated understanding of the challenges experienced by individuals facing alcohol and other drug use, mental health concerns, and social disadvantage.
- Ability to work effectively with people from diverse cultural backgrounds and deliver culturally secure services.
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and report-writing skills.
- Ability to build effective relationships with community organisations, government agencies, GPs, and health service providers.
- Experience delivering community education, advocacy, and support activities.
- Ability to work independently while contributing positively to a multidisciplinary team environment.
- Strong administrative and computer skills, including experience with client management systems.
- Confidence in managing challenging situations while maintaining professional boundaries and ethical practice.

Desirable Requirements

- Current knowledge of and commitment to Equal Opportunity principles and inclusive service delivery.

- Knowledge of harm minimisation, recovery-oriented practice, and continuing care models.

Pre-employment Requirements:

- Current Driver’s Licence (C or A Class).
- National Police Clearance (within 3 months).
- Working with Children Check.
