The Project

Join a large-scale digital transformation program supporting a well-known state government agency and contributing to the ongoing development and operation of a modern enterprise data platform within a complex environment.

This role will be responsible for the day-to-day ownership, administration and continuous evolution of the data platform, ensuring it remains operational, secure, supportable and appropriately documented.

Working closely with DBAs, platform administrators, vendors and business stakeholders, you will play a key role in managing data ingestion, platform operations and incident resolution across the enterprise data environment. The platform leverages Microsoft Azure, Databricks and Fivetran, providing an opportunity to work with contemporary cloud-based data technologies in a collaborative environment.

This is a hybrid role based in East Perth, WA, with the successful candidate expected to work collaboratively with onsite and remote stakeholders as required.

Responsibilities

- Own and continuously improve the Enterprise Data Platform.
- Administer and support Azure, Databricks and Fivetran environments.
- Ensure the platform is secure, stable, well documented and fully operational.
- Coordinate delivery and support activities across technical teams, vendors and stakeholders.
- Onboard new data sources and maintain Fivetran connectors.




- Manage data ingestion issues and remediation activities resulting from source system changes.
- Oversee operations across Bronze, Silver and Gold data layers.
- Monitor, troubleshoot and resolve platform incidents and problems.
- Drive continuous improvement across platform operations, monitoring and support processes.
- Maintain technical and operational documentation.
- Collaborate with internal teams and vendors to ensure effective platform delivery and support.

Skills and Experience

- Proven senior-level experience working within data engineering, data platform administration or a related technology environment.
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure and cloud-based data platforms.
- Demonstrated experience working with Databricks in an enterprise data environment.
- Experience supporting and administering enterprise data platforms and associated technologies.
- Understanding of modern data platform architectures and Bronze, Silver and Gold data layer concepts.
- Experience with data ingestion, source system onboarding and troubleshooting data integration issues.
- Experience coordinating or supporting data ingestion using Fivetran or similar data integration tools would be highly regarded.
- Strong understanding of platform monitoring, operational support, incident management and problem management.
- Experience coordinating technical activities across DBAs, platform administrators, vendors and business stakeholders.
- Ability to investigate, triage and resolve issues affecting data platform availability, performance and data ingestion.




- Strong understanding of data platform security, governance, operational controls and documentation requirements.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to engage effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a proactive approach to identifying and resolving platform issues.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications in Computer Science, Information Technology, Data Engineering or a related discipline are desirable.
- Experience working within large, complex or highly regulated enterprise environments will be highly regarded.
- Relevant industry certifications in Azure, Databricks or data engineering would be advantageous.
