Working with dogs sounds like a lot of fun, and it absolutely is! But it’s also a physically and mentally demanding job that requires patience, energy, confidence and a genuine understanding of dogs.

Paws & Relax is looking for a part-time Doggy Daycare Teacher to join our team at our brand-new home at 257 MacArthur Avenue, Hamilton, right next to Eat Street Northshore.

After more than a decade caring for Brisbane dogs, we’ve recently moved into an exciting new location with much larger spaces, purpose-built daycare areas, new grooming and bathing rooms and some exciting current services on the way.

We’re looking for someone with experience working with dogs and an understanding of canine behaviour. You’ll need to be enthusiastic, eager to learn, extremely dependable and comfortable providing great customer service to our human clients too.

What you’ll be doing

This is a busy, hands-on role. Your day may include:

- Constantly monitoring the welfare, behaviour and interactions of the dogs in your care
- Engaging, playing and building positive relationships with dogs of all shapes, sizes and personalities
- Reinforcing basic manners and positive behaviours
- Running enrichment activities and helping create fun, structured daycare days
- Providing a high-quality experience for both our dogs and their pet parents
- Taking photos and videos of our daycare dogs for our client community
- Working closely and harmoniously with the rest of our team, while also being confident working independently
- Setting up and packing down daycare spaces and activities
- Cleaning, cleaning... and MORE cleaning!

As our new location and services grow, there will also be opportunities to learn and assist across other areas of the business, including enrichment, special events and other dog-focused services.

What we’re looking for





We’re looking for someone who wants to continue learning and developing their skills with dogs.

Paws & Relax uses positive, force-free methods, and training is provided on the job, including education in dog behaviour, body language and safe group management.

You don’t need to know everything on day one, but you do need to be genuinely interested in learning.

If you’re put off by slobber, loud barking, wet dogs, strange smells, wee, poo or spending a significant portion of your day cleaning, this probably isn’t the job for you!

You will need to be:

- Flexible and able to adapt to whatever the dogs throw at us on any given day
- Quick on your feet, a fast thinker and able to multitask
- A lover of dogs of all sizes and breeds
- Able to understand canine body language and behaviour
- Proactive, outgoing and energetic
- Positive, dependable and ready to jump in when your team needs you
- Comfortable getting your hands dirty. There is a lot of cleaning!
- Physically capable of being on your feet for long periods and completing physically demanding tasks, including lifting
- Comfortable communicating with clients and providing excellent customer service
- Must have availability Monday to Friday for rostered shifts between 6:15am and 6:45pm
- Applicants who are also available on Saturdays will be highly regarded
