Versatile, long-term inspection work with an established Newcastle business

Pink Slip Building Reports is seeking an experienced building skilled to join our team as a subcontract building inspector.

This opportunity would suit someone with extensive building and construction experience who is looking for flexible, interesting and consistent work.

The successful applicant will initially undertake approximately two inspections per week, with the potential for additional work depending on their availability and business demand. We are looking for someone interested in developing a reliable, long-term working relationship with our business.

Inspection work is primarily located throughout Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the Hunter, with occasional opportunities on the Central Coast and in Sydney.

About the role

You will undertake a varied range of residential, commercial, industrial and strata inspections, which may include:

- Residential and commercial defect inspections
- Practical completion and pre-handover inspections
- Construction progress inspections
- Strata and common property inspections
- Commercial and industrial entry and exit condition reports
- Dilapidation inspections
- Re-inspections
- Other special‑purpose building inspections

You will be responsible for:

- Conducting thorough and impartial visual building inspections
- Identifying, photographing and clearly documenting defects, incomplete work and areas of concern
- Completing detailed inspection records with clear written observations and properly organised photographs
- Preparing or contributing to formal reports in accordance with Pink Slip Building Reports’ systems
- Explaining findings clearly without making unsupported conclusions
- Communicating professionally with homeowners, builders, tenants,



strata representatives and other clients
- Following agreed inspection scopes, procedures and reporting standards
- Remaining within the limits of your qualifications, expertise and the agreed inspection scope
- Using Microsoft suite, digital inspection forms, photographs and reporting systems

About you

We are looking for someone who is highly experienced, reliable, personable and genuinely good at what they do.

You will ideally have:

- Extensive practical experience in residential building and construction
- Demonstrated experience identifying and documenting building defects
- Previous experience undertaking building, defect or property inspections
- A relevant trade, building, construction or professional qualification
- A current or previous NSW contractor licence in a relevant building category, or another directly relevant qualification
- Strong knowledge of construction methods, the National Construction Code, relevant Australian Standards and common building defects
- Familiarity with the AS 4349 series
- Solid written communication skills and excellent attention to detail
- The ability to produce thorough, accurate and defensible inspection findings
- A professional, calm and impartial approach
- A strong record of reliability, punctuality and clear communication
- The ability to work independently and manage inspection appointments
- A respectful and personable manner when working in occupied homes and businesses




- The physical capability to safely undertake building inspections, including using ladders and accessing roof spaces, subfloors and external areas where safe and within scope
- A current driver licence and reliable vehicle
- An ABN and appropriate insurances, or the ability to obtain them
- Experience with commercial, strata, dilapidation or construction progress inspections will be highly regarded.
