English Tutor – HSC English

Casual | $50–$80 per hour | 10–20+ hours per week

Academy One Private Tuition is seeking high-performing and experienced English tutors to join our teaching team.

This role is best suited to candidates with a solid academic background in English and the ability to confidently teach secondary students, particularly HSC English Advanced and English Extension.

Although this is a casual position, we have a significant number of teaching hours available. Suitable tutors should be prepared to teach approximately 10–20+ hours per week. Applicants with greater availability will be given preference.

Position Responsibilities

Tutors will be expected to teach students across Years 7–12 and provide high-quality instruction in:

- Essay writing and textual analysis
- Creative, discursive and persuasive writing
- Reading and comprehension
- HSC English Advanced
- HSC English Extension
- Assessment and examination preparation
- Detailed written and verbal feedback

Teaching may include both small-group classes and one-to-one lessons. Requirements for University Student Applicants

University students applying for this position must have a strong HSC English academic record.

Applicants should

- Have completed their secondary schooling in Sydney/NSW
- Have achieved a Band 6 in HSC English Advanced
- Preferably have achieved an E4 in English Extension 1 and/or English Extension 2
- Have excellent written and verbal English
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of literary analysis and essay writing
- Be confident teaching senior secondary students
- Be reliable, punctual and professionally presented




- Be able to commit to a consistent weekly teaching schedule

Applicants who do not meet the above academic requirements may not be considered for senior English teaching positions.

Experienced High School Teachers

We strongly encourage applications from:
- Current secondary English teachers
- Former secondary English teachers
- NESA-accredited teachers
- Teachers with significant HSC English Advanced or Extension experience

Qualified and experienced high school English teachers are preferred. Remuneration for experienced teachers can be discussed separately and may exceed the standard rate depending on qualifications, experience and teaching capacity.

Hours and Availability

This is a casual position with substantial weekly hours available.

Successful applicants should ideally be available for 10–20+ hours per week, particularly during weekday afternoons/evenings and weekends.

Applicants who are only available for a very limited number of hours may be less suitable for this position.

We are particularly interested in tutors who are looking to build a consistent and substantial weekly teaching schedule.

Pay

$50–$80 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications and teaching ability.

Pay will be determined based on factors including:

- HSC English results
- University qualifications




- Previous tutoring experience
- School teaching experience
- Ability to teach HSC English Advanced
- Ability to teach English Extension
- Quality of teaching and student feedback

Experienced high school English teachers may discuss a higher rate directly with us.

- Hold or obtain a valid NSW Working With Children Check
- Arrive prepared and on time for all lessons
- Maintain a professional standard of communication with students, parents and staff
- Provide meaningful and specific feedback on student work
- Follow Academy One's teaching programs and academic expectations
- Maintain consistent availability throughout the school term
