Abbeyfield Australia is a not-for-profit organisation and registered charity and national community housing provider, operating 22 houses around Australia. Our houses are a large, family style homes offering supportive group housing up to ten older residents and residents with disabilities, along with our Housekeepers, our corporate team play a big part in our residents’ happiness and wellbeing.

Through our network of houses and volunteers across Australia, we provide a unique and affordable community housing option that helps people remain connected to their local communities.

We are seeking an experienced, passionate, and dedicated Finance officer, who will contribute to the overall efficient and effective planning and running of a busy and diverse organisation delivering affordable housing. The position requires a background in finance and payroll.

This role would suit an experienced Finance Officer, Accounts Officer, or Bookkeeper who enjoys working with numbers, people and takes pride in accuracy and likes being an important part of a collaborative team.

The position is focused on three key areas:

1. Financial Administration
2. Reporting to Finance & Operations Managers
3. Contribute to organisational systems that support compliance, effective operations, risk management and accreditation.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE FINANCE OFFICER Accounts Payable & Receivable
- Processing supplier invoices and payments
- Managing accounts payable and supplier enquiries
- Raising and issuing invoices
- Allocating resident payments
- Monitoring and following up outstanding debtor balances
- Maintaining accurate creditor and debtor records

Payroll & Tax




- Manage all aspects of payroll including fortnightly pays, superannuation and PAYG tax.
- Manage all aspects of Portable Long Service leave across 4 states
- Manage all tax matters including PAYG tax, BAS statements and annual returns.

Banking & Reconciliations
- Daily bank processing across multiple accounts
- Maintaining and reviewing bank feeds
- Reconciling bank accounts and credit cards
- Investigating and resolving discrepancies
- Supporting cash flow monitoring and reporting

Finance Administration

- Maintaining the accuracy of Xero transactions and account coding
- Assisting with monthly reconciliations and month-end procedures
- Supporting Trial Balance preparation and reporting
- Processing payroll and related compliance reporting
- Maintaining finance records and documentation
- Assisting with finance and operational improvement projects

KEY SELECTION CRITERIA key selection criteria

- Demonstrated understanding and experience in the application of accounting and financial management policies and practices.
- Comprehensive knowledge and substantial experience in payroll management and practices.




- Sound understanding of current Industrial Awards and Industrial Relations legislation, with the ability to effectively advise senior leaders, including the CEO.
- Demonstrated high-level proficiency in office administration, including advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Office Suite and XERO accounting software.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the Operations team and CEO, and other staff.
- Ability to work independently and exercise initiative and sound judgement.

Desirable

- Certificate IV in Accounting & Bookkeeping, Business Administration or similar accounting qualification and/or equivalent experience.
- 3-5+ years' experience in an Accounts Officer, Finance Officer, Bookkeeper or Finance Administration role
- Experience with XERO and DEXT accounting software programs.
- Experience in the not-for-profit sector.
- Experience with NDIS invoicing.
- Experience with Centrepay
- Understanding of charity fringe benefit concessions.
- Solid attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- The ability to identify issues and investigate discrepancies
- Strong communication and stakeholder management skills

Specifications

- The successful applicant will be required to produce or apply for NDIS Worker Screening Check and Working with Children Check.
