We are seeking a Local Community Connector to join our Federal government client in a community-focused role supporting individuals to access services, community supports and appropriate pathways.
This is an Identified position with a strong focus on working respectfully and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
The Role
- Work with individuals, communities and service providers to gather information and support access to appropriate services.
- Build strong, culturally respectful relationships with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
- Provide information about government, mainstream and community services and supports.
- Develop outcome-focused community connection plans based on individual needs and choices.
- Conduct participant check-ins and monitor the implementation of supports.
- Work closely with internal and external stakeholders to resolve enquiries and provide advice.
- Apply relevant legislation, policies, procedures and guidelines when making decisions.
About You
- Strong understanding of issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and communities.
- Demonstrated cultural awareness and commitment to culturally appropriate engagement.
- Experience in community engagement,
service delivery or a similar client-focused environment.
- Robust stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently, exercise sound judgement and manage competing priorities.
- Confidence managing sensitive or moderately complex enquiries.
- Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office.
Role Requirements
- Travel to regional and remote locations, including overnight stays.
- Visiting external locations and individuals' homes.
- Driving long distances, including on unsealed roads.
- Working across uneven terrain and in varying weather conditions.
- High levels of face-to-face and telephone-based engagement.
A current driver's licence is required.
The successful candidate will also be required to obtain and maintain relevant employment and security clearances, including Working with Children/Vulnerable Persons and relevant worker screening checks.
