Telehealth GP – Medicinal Cannabis

Cannabis Doctors Tasmania is expanding its medical team and is looking for a GP to join our independent telehealth practice.

This is a genuinely flexible opportunity that can fit around your existing work, family and lifestyle commitments. You can choose the sessions and hours that suit you, from approximately 4 hours per week through to a larger regular workload.

We are experiencing continued patient demand and are looking for additional doctors who value independent, patient-focused clinical care.

We deliberately operate without the commercial relationships that can influence prescribing decisions. We have:

- No ownership interests in pharmacies

- No prescribing or sales targets
- No corporate KPIs determining clinical decisions
- Complete clinical independence for our doctors

We trust our doctors to use their own professional judgement. Our team includes clinicians with different levels of experience in medicinal cannabis, and we provide training and support without imposing a one-size-fits-all prescribing approach.

Our priority is good clinical care. Medicinal cannabis is one potential treatment option, considered only when appropriate for the individual patient.

What you can expect

This role is designed to provide maximum flexibility while giving you the support of an established clinical and administrative team.

You will be able to:

- Work completely remotely from your home
- Work from anywhere in Australia
- Choose sessions between 8am and 9pm, 7 days per week
- Start with a minimum commitment of approximately 4 hours per week
- Access a strong and consistent flow of patients
- Work within a private-billing model with no Medicare billing requirements
- Receive comprehensive training if you are new to medicinal cannabis
- Access ongoing clinical support and mentoring
- Rely on our administration team for bookings,



prescriptions and patient communication
- Take leave whenever required, with no fixed leave allocation

Remuneration

Doctors receive a percentage of the consultations they conduct.

Our current consultation fees are:

- Initial consultation: 30 minutes – $139
- Follow-up consultation: 15 minutes – $99

This equates to indicative earnings of approximately:
- Initial consultations: $166–$181+ per hour
- Follow-up consultations: $238–$257+ per hour

Actual hourly earnings vary according to appointment mix. As doctors establish their patient base, follow-up appointments generally make up a greater proportion of their sessions.

Expected earnings are approximately $170–$260+ per hour.

The clinical role

You will conduct telehealth consultations with patients throughout Australia, many of whom have chronic, complex or treatment-resistant health conditions.

Depending on the individual patient, your responsibilities may include:

- Completing comprehensive medical assessments
- Reviewing medical history, current medications and previous treatment approaches
- Determining whether medicinal cannabis is clinically appropriate
- Establishing personalised treatment plans
- Prescribing and monitoring treatment where appropriate
- Conducting ongoing reviews and follow-up consultations
- Maintaining thorough and appropriate clinical records
- Communicating with the patient's regular GP and other treating healthcare professionals

We place a strong emphasis on communication and continuity of care. Patients receive detailed correspondence following consultations, and their regular GPs are routinely kept informed through clinical letters.

We believe medicinal cannabis care should be thoughtful, clinically appropriate, affordable and evidence-based.

- Allowing patients to choose where their medication is dispensed
- Considering affordable treatment options where clinically suitable
- Structured monitoring and follow-up
- Working alongside the patient's existing healthcare team
- Appropriate consideration of oils and oral formulations, while recognising that inhaled treatments may be more suitable for some patients
- Clear clinical boundaries and responsible prescribing

Doctors are encouraged to make treatment decisions based on the individual patient rather than commercial considerations.

Who we are looking for

We would ideally like you to have:

- Current AHPRA registration
- At least 3 years of clinical experience
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Confidence working through telehealth and digital platforms
- A genuine commitment to patient-centred healthcare
- An interest in chronic disease, complex presentations and ongoing patient management

Experience prescribing medicinal cannabis is not essential.

We provide comprehensive initial training, onboarding and ongoing clinical support to doctors who are new to this area of medicine.
