Warrnambool City Council is seeking an experienced and passionate Restoring Families Parenting Assessment and Skill Development Practitioner to join our Parenting and Children’s Services team.

The Restoring Families Parenting Assessment and Skill Development Service (PASDS) provides intensive parenting assessment and skill development to families where there are significant concerns regarding parenting capacity, child safety, infant development and/or the parent-child relationship.

Working with infants and young children aged birth to three years, you will support families experiencing complex and intersecting vulnerabilities, including Child Protection involvement, family violence, substance use, mental health concerns, trauma, attachment disruption and developmental concerns.

About the role

- Undertake comprehensive, evidence-informed assessments of parenting capacity, child development, parent-child relationships, safety and family functioning.
- Provide intensive, individualised in-home parenting skill development focused on strengthening safety, attachment and child wellbeing.
- Work collaboratively with families, Child Protection, health professionals and other services while maintaining professional independence.
- Manage an allocated caseload autonomously, from intake and assessment through to intervention, review, reporting and case closure.
- Prepare high-quality, objective case notes, assessments and reports, including documentation that may contribute to Children’s Court proceedings.
- Respond to complex and emerging risks and exercise sound professional judgement in working with vulnerable children and families.
- Work across home, community and other settings,



including travel to partnering LGAs.

About you

You will bring demonstrated experience working with vulnerable children and families, strong assessment and analytical skills, and the ability to work confidently and autonomously in complex environments. You will have a sound understanding of infant development, attachment, parenting capacity, family violence and child safety, together with the ability to build effective relationships while maintaining clear professional boundaries.
