First Nations Peer Worker

Join headspace in a newly created role designed in partnership with local Elders, First Nations young people, community members, and Traditional Owner representatives.

As the First Nations Peer Worker, you will be a welcoming first point of contact for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, helping create pathways to support through engagement, prevention, and early intervention. Using your lived experience, cultural knowledge and community connections, you will build trust, strengthen relationships, and help young people access support in ways that feel safe, respectful, and culturally appropriate.

This is an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of First Nations young people while working within a supportive multidisciplinary team that values culture, connection, and community.

What you'll do

- Build solid relationships with young people, families, Elders and community.
- Engage with young people through outreach, schools, community events, and activities.
- Contribute cultural knowledge and lived experience to improve service delivery.
- Provide culturally safe peer support and encourage early help-seeking.
- Help young people navigate headspace and other support services.
- Promote connections to culture, family, community and Country.
- Work alongside community partners to strengthen wellbeing and early intervention initiatives.

About You You identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander and enjoy connecting with people. You are a great listener, build trust easily and are passionate about supporting young people to thrive.

You should have experience in youth work, community engagement, health, education, peer support or community services, but most importantly, you bring authenticity, cultural knowledge and a genuine commitment to making a difference.
