Coburg Structural Steel is a medium sized company and is looking for a competent and experienced Boilermaker in Structural Steel Fabrication. The successful applicant should be willing to work both in the workshop and in office, depending on operational requirements.

About the role:

Key responsibilities: Workshop:

- Read shop drawings
- Oxy/Sawcutting
- Drilling holes using magnetic drill
- Lay out components to prepare for welding using mig/arc welder
- Operate an overhead crane
- Working as a team is essential
- Work unsupervised

Key Responsibilities: On-site (when required):

- Install and erect structural steel including columns, beams, lintels, portal frames, stairs, platforms, bracing, ties & purlins to project specifications. Lead small crews onsite while remaining hands-on with fabrication and welding tasks.
- Accurately read and interpret structural, shop and technical drawings to plan and execute installations
- Perform on-site welding, bolting, grinding, fit-up work, and steel assembly safely and with precision
- Assist with crane lifts, dogging, rigging operations, and other complex site tasks
- Carry out welding modifications, troubleshooting, site measure and boilermaker works efficiently on site
- Safely operate hand tools, power tools, welding equipment and site machinery,



maintaining strict adherence to safety protocols
- Work confidently at heights using EWPs, scaffolding, or harness systems
- Coordinate closely with fabrication and production teams to ensure timely delivery and smooth installation of steel components
- Maintain high standards of workmanship, safety, and site housekeeping
- Hold a current White Card and consistently follow all site safety procedures
- Provide constructive feedback to continuously improve installation processes and site efficiency
- Provide regular feedback to management on installation progress, site issues and outcomes

Qualifications required:

- Certificate Ill in Engineering-Fabrication Trade
- Drivers License

Experience:

- Min.5yrs experience in fabricating of Structural Steel (as well as some experience working on-site)
- Extensive knowledge in reading shop drawings

Skills:

- Organised and able to meet deadlines
- Communicate effectively with fellow workers to ensure project is completed within the time-frame required
- Use initiative when working unsupervised

Salary: Above award rate (based on experience), good facilities and good working environment. Overtime is available when required. Early clock-off on Fridays.
