Investment Banking Associate — Energy M&A; Advisory
Location: Sydney | Level: Associate | Sector: Renewable Energy & Infrastructure The Opportunity A leading independent advisory firm with a solid track record in Australian energy M&A; is looking to add an Associate to its Sydney team. The firm advises on some of the most significant renewable energy and infrastructure transactions in the market — sell-side and buy-side platform M&A;, asset sales, and an expanding project finance advisory practice.
The team is deliberately lean and the responsibility at Associate level is real. You will run workstreams, manage client relationships, and work directly alongside senior advisers on live mandates from day one.
The Role
- Execution of sell-side and buy-side M&A; advisory mandates across renewable energy platforms, developers, and infrastructure assets
- Financial modelling and valuation across DCF, SOTP, and precedent transaction frameworks
- Preparation of transaction materials including teasers, information memoranda, and management presentations
- Management of due diligence processes, VDR administration, and coordination of external advisers
- Bid analysis, process management, and counterparty engagement across competitive sale processes
- Direct client engagement with developers, infrastructure funds,
and institutional investors active in the Australian energy transition
What They're Looking For
- 2 to 6 years of investment banking or financial advisory experience, with exposure to energy, infrastructure, or M&A;
- Strong financial modelling capability — able to build from scratch and articulate your approach clearly under pressure
- Genuine interest in the Australian energy transition — this is a sector-specialist environment and superficial interest will show
- Experience contributing to a sell-side or buy-side M&A; process end to end
- Comfortable with significant commitment — the firm runs a high volume of top-end mandates with a lean team
- Long-term intent — there is a strong track record of internal progression and the firm invests in people accordingly
Why This Role
- Consistent deal flow at the top end of Australian energy M&A; — platform sales, asset transactions, and hybrid M&A; and project finance mandates
- High level of responsibility and client exposure from an early stage
- Strong compensation including a bonus structure that reflects deal quality and volume
- A close-knit, experienced team with a culture of genuine mentorship and long-term development
- Sydney-based
