About the role

We are a locally operated equipment-hire business looking for a reliable and motivated Junior Hire Controller / Yard All-Rounder to join our team.

This is a varied, hands-on role for someone who enjoys customer service, is organised and is willing to learn all parts of a small equipment-hire business. You will be trained in the office and hire-counter side of the business, while also helping with day-to-day yard operations.

We are looking for someone who is happy to be flexible. This is not a role where you sit behind a desk all day — you will be part of a small team and will help wherever needed to keep the business running smoothly.

Main duties

- Answer customer phone calls, emails and counter enquiries
- Prepare quotes, hire contracts, bookings, invoices and related paperwork
- Assist customers with selecting suitable equipment for their jobs
- Coordinate equipment bookings, collections, returns and deliveries
- Check equipment in and out and ensure hire paperwork is accurate
- Assist with cleaning, preparing, loading and unloading equipment
- Maintain a tidy, safe and organised office and yard
- Provide general support across daily hire and yard operations

About you

- Friendly, reliable and well presented
- Comfortable speaking with customers on the phone and in person
- Organised, detail-focused and able to manage several tasks at once




- Comfortable learning computer systems, bookings and invoicing processes
- Practical and happy to assist with hands-on yard work
- Able to work independently but also contribute to a small team
- Interested in learning about equipment, tools and the hire industry

Essential requirements

- Current Australian car driver’s licence
- Full working rights in Australia
- Ability to complete both office-based and physically active duties
- Forklift licence

Desirable but not essential

- Truck licence
- Experience in customer service, administration, retail, trade supplies, construction, transport, warehousing or equipment hire
- Knowledge of tools, small plant, construction equipment or machinery
- Experience using booking, invoicing or point-of-sale systems
